i think one of the things i'm most nervous about, now that I'm finishing my longterm ttrpg campaign and starting a new one, is that so much of how i craft sessions these days is rooted in how well i know these characters and their histories. i have spent actual IRL years of my life getting to know these PCs, and some NPCs too. so, to use recent events as examples, i know that a vague and evocative line like "hands gripping the cold porcelain of a sink" will speak to ingot, just as i know that water imagery and metaphor will speak to whitlock. i know that an offering made in the wake of kempa's (temporary) death has got to be an offering for her compassion and sense of justice, and as z'ress, i can recite this speech without even really looking at my notes. as mahety, i know exactly how she'll respond to an emergency, just as i know that while traveling, saube has got to be the one to look after the six-month-old in their care.
and i know that I'll get to know my players' next characters. even, eventually, if we're lucky, to the same degree. but, especially given that we're also switching game systems, there's gonna be a steep learning curve that i haven't had to really think about for years now. it's intimidating to say the least.
