Lyra actually has a horrible fear of heights/falling. Standing on a precipice, crossing a bridge over a long fall, decending into a dungeon via rope or ladder, and other common scenarios for adventurers are extremely difficult or downright impossible for Lyra. The dizziness, panic, and light headedness she feels prevent her from just “powering through” her fear. Trying to force her to face it will only make her panic worse and she will absolutely fight against whoever tries to force her.

Airships are an everyday convenience to some, but Lyra sees them as a recurring nightmare. Traditional sea ships cannot take her to any and every destination, so Lyra is forced to use airships and every single time it is a miserable experience. She spends the whole flight trying to look like she’s not having a panic attack while gripping the railings hard enough to turn her knuckles white.

Kaien makes the mistake of meeting her glistening eyes and jutted lips, causing him to sigh in defeat.

“No, come here.” Cae holds out her hands, gesturing him to move. “Come here, you lazy bum.” It’s only when she crosses her arms over her chest and gives him the look that he shifts himself up against the couch from the floor with a low groan. Their height difference proved far too much, so she was seated on top of the sofa.

He can feel those dainty digits sifting through his dark locks, and he hears her hum a familiar tune as she does so. It’s oddly soothing, motherly even. He peers back at her (or attempts to), but she’s quick to turn his head at her will. This woman is stronger than she appears. Still, the warmth she harbors begins to surround the space around him.

“… Mm.”

“Hm?” He doesn’t see her, but he can hear the smile in her voice. He can envision it in his mind: her smile starts at the corner of plush lips, and widens into the lines of her soft features.

“Cae…”

“Hush.”

The laugh that follows her command overpowers her, bringing her chest up and down, and he finds himself doing the same. Her laughter was contagious. Eventually, it’s their laughter filling up the room, and all of their troubles seem to be of very little importance, even if just temporary.

“You’re… strange.”

“Well, you’re abnormally tall and strange.”

She pulls him back now, which catches him by surprise. Her eyes drift from the array of blossoms scattered throughout his strands to his puzzled gaze.

“Abnormally tall and pretty, I should say.”

Kaien grumbles beneath his breath, but there’s no veiling the hint of a smile that rises to the surface.
