It's always bitter sweet pulling honey out of a hive that didn't make it through the winter. I have a feeling this colony had a very weak queen that just stopped laying. There was plenty of food and the hive was well insulated but no sign of any brood cleaning this hive out. They were alive and well during the warm spell we had in February and dead a week later. To be able to pull another few gallons of honey fro last season is a bit mind boggling to me.
