baby lxc fic, as many of 2, 11, and 12 as you feel like?
2: What scene did you first put down?
Ok so @xiyao-feels and I had not spoken directly at that point and then they pinged me for the first time and in I think our first chat, or possibly our second? due to conversational Circumstances I (well I think it was me?) suggested that if LXC got reverted to teenagerdom he would immediately get a huge crush on JGY (edit: having now checked the chatlog, in context of [larger discussion about Xiyao combos] I said that Jin-xiandu meeting baby LXC would thrill me and xiyao-feels immediately responded with 'world's biggest crush' so there you go, origin story unlocked). Obviously we then had a very excited discussion about how cute that would be, and then I briefly disappeared and rematerialised with what is now the opening scene of the fic.
Def can't overstate their impact on this one—I did outline and write it but as the author's note states, they contributed the majority of the adorable scenarios and gave feedback throughout. The fic would not exist at all, let alone in its final form, without them.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
he's so cute. he's so. guys he's so cute jdsknfgkhnkjsdfg
NO BUT REALLY. It was so nice to have a low stakes canon compliant situation where they could just be adorable together, and I think keeping it grounded and working in allusions to all the backstory only heightened how intimately they are entwined and how joyful their connection is.
Plus, LXC really does deserve this (and I use the word advisedly, taking into consideration that 'deserve' and 'want' are often erroneously conflated). When he was fifteen the first time around he did not get to be baby, and while I don't think it's his heart's desire for that to happen, I do think he would hugely enjoy it as a treat. But there will be more on this subject in the other baby LXC fic, which is still in the works. The posted fic is what we call Lanling baby, and the unposted one is Gusu baby. Gusu baby has more time and even more space to let go of his responsibilities for a while and explore his relationship with JGY.
12: What do you like least about this fic?
It's really one of my favourites and while there are things I would edit it's mostly nitpicking. Choose another fic and I'd have plenty more constructive things to say to myself, believe me. I do think I mistimed the pacing at the end there and rushed it a tad, so that irritates me in retrospect. And that's the second fic I've said that about in these asks—clearly it's something I need to watch out for.
