By now you might have realised how much I love stitching bees and hives…you might not know that I’ve also got a soft spot for knots too - although you might guess from the blossom covering the hawthorn tree on my Beehive Pin Drum 🌸🌸🌸 . The much maligned knot is much more straightforward than many give it credit for - and the number of different effects you can create by adding or taking away strands, or choosing a colonial over a French (or vice versa), is astonishing! French knots tend to make smaller, tighter knots while the figure-of-eight used for the colonial knot creates a more open knot that’s softer in appearance. . The trick is to take it slowly and maintain your tension as you take the needle through the knot and into the linen - there’s no need to rush 😉 (And if it all goes wrong, you can always unpick and use beads instead!!) .
