Save your older work.

Even if you’re new to your craft, or if you’ve been at it for years and years, don’t delete/get rid of your older work if you don’t have to.

When I started writing, I wrote anything and everything that came to mind. I let the ideas flow and put the pen to the page. But later on, when I looked back at it, I thought that it was bad. Cringy. Awful. And I deleted them entirely.

Sure, some of them were pretty dang bad. (Not every story’s going to be great.) But let me tell you, for some of those stories, I massively regret deleting them. Even if they were bad, cringy, and awful, they were still stories that I had written. Stories that had good concepts at their core, or neat ideas sprinkled throughout the tales.

I wish that I kept those stories, no matter how bad I thought they were at the time. Maybe those ideas just needed more polishing to really allow them to shine. Or maybe they could’ve been put to better use in a different story.

You might think that your old work is bad, and you might want to get rid of it entirely, but don’t. Look at your old work, and if there are things that you want to keep, or things that you want to change, take note of them. Maybe your ideas were better suited for something else, or maybe the concepts could be better executed with your current skill level.

We cringe at our old work because we may think it’s badly done. Maybe it was. But you may also be viewing it from a standpoint where you’re more skilled in your craft than you were when you first created your work. You can more easily see the flaws and imperfections that you couldn’t see before.

Look back at your old work and see how you’ve grown since then.

See what you did right. See what could’ve used some improvement.

Don’t throw out things entirely if you don’t have to. Even if you think they’re bad now, there could still be diamonds in the rough hiding in plain sight.

Inquisitive Minds for the Supernatural Kind / Detective Light Novel

[A 1920's supernatural murder mystery involving supernatural beings/Supernaturals living alongside humans.]

Adeline Idler - 30 year old detective/private eye solving supernatural cases alongside her adopted children, Remington and Cordelia, and their newest recruit, Gray. She’s very proud and determined to solve any and every case that comes her way, but she can also be stubborn to a fault. Nevertheless, she believes that every truth has a right to come to light, and that everyone has a right to be heard. 5' 6", human.

Remington Sterling - 15 year old apprentice of Adeline and twin brother of Cordelia. He's very intelligent and analytical, but also very insecure. He almost always carries around his journal, which he writes various notes in, be it about different Supernaturals or about the case at hand. He and Cordelia are attached at the hip, and they'd do anything to protect each other. By "anything", they truly would do anything. 5' 7", human.

Cordelia Sterling - 15 year old apprentice of Adeline and Remington's twin sister. She's very kind and caring, analyzing situations with her high emotional intelligence. However, she's also insanely strong for a petite young woman, having pried her arm out of the grip of a German Shepherd and accidentally punched a hole through a plaster wall. She's caring to the point of having a minor savior complex, throwing herself in the way to save someone from harm with no consideration for her own safety. Either way, she deeply loves her brother, and she forms a close relationship with Gray. She often lets him stand on her shoulder or hide in her purse. 5' 1", human.

Gray - Unknown age, but appears to be around 16-17. He initially hid at the Idler Detective Agency when he got stuck in human territory, but eventually became a member of their team. While initially very meek and people-pleasing, he eventually becomes more outspoken and active in investigations/deductions. He's closest to Cordelia due to being saved by her, but is overall fond of all members of the agency. Despite his diminutive size compared to humans (He's actually quite tall for a brownie spirit.), he prides himself on making his own clothes and his ability to easily maneuver around. 6.5", brownie spirit (Supernatural)

Hive Mind

[A drama involving insect-human hybrids and reconnecting with family.]

Yanru Zhen - A 29 year old bartender, who was unintentionally transformed into a Dragonfly Hybrid. He fell out of contact with his parents due to being afraid of them seeing his mutation. Only one person knew about his mutation (his roommate, Jian Shi), but the organization that created the mutation serums, the Hive, discovers his secret and, when he turns down joining them, chase after him in order to get rid of him. Although he prefers not to fight, he uses his extreme speed to outmaneuver his opponents. Otherwise, he binds his wings with gauze bandages. 5' 9"

(To note, I have 2 AUs for him. One is him being a trans man [nothing else changes], and the other is him being stuck transforming into a dragonfly-winged fairy [the Fae-U].)

Kaiju Kid

[Pretty much, a half-kaiju fights to protect his home city of Ouroboros Bay from various Kaiju serving the Kaiju King.]

Raito Himura - An 18 year old man, a.k.a the titular Kaiju Kid. He's the son of a human father (Atsushi) and a kaiju-turned-human mother (Umiko), and he's been able to transform into a half-kaiju a bit after he hit puberty. He has some rather intense anger issues at times, which makes him a bit of an outcast, but he finds solace in his 2 friends, Hime Yumehara and Nezu Shoushin. When kaiju start attacking his home city, he transforms into a 47' tall half-kaiju and fights with his claws and limited electricity-channeling abilities. Since his mother was a mixed fire-electric Kaiju, he also inherited her typing, having the red, heat-resistant scales of a fire kaiju and the (albeit short) horns and electricity-channeling abilities of an electric kaiju. Due to his mother being missing, he's trained by her close friend and also kaiju-turned-human, Setsuna. 5' 10" when human, 47' 3" when transformed.
