i raise you: a really fucked up version of both

simon not needing to eat, instead being sustained by blood or the artificial grow lights and water, humming into the soil as he helps things grow through the nutrient decay that flooded his body in the ocean

simon’s cheek splitting like tree roots carving through wet earth when he’s angry, too large teeth bared with a venom slicked tongue while he stares down his adversary with a predatory green eye

simon’s prosthetic arm he is gifted isn’t attached through a harness nor is it hiding teeth, but instead branches emerge to hold the sun-warmed metal to his body, roots acting as nerves on the inside to grant him feeling again

simon being able to breathe underwater, not forever but for significantly longer than he should, as he feels himself glide through the cool liquid with ease entirely foreign to his human body

simon getting upset or even sick if he is out of sunlight for too long—artificial or otherwise—and the cravings turn dark and dangerous as the roots inside his body incessantly beg for anything to survive
