Norman's mom hasnt been Mrs Reedus since 1971! She NEVER shipped Norman and Melissa, but Daryl and Carol. And she currently jumped that ship and seriously dislikes carol, after her verbal and mental abuse of Sam. She was pretty irate about that. Pissed Daryl didnt save Buttons too. :)

What I commented on was via Norman, from interviews, pre BDS, when he was dating Helena. UK press. I wasn't giving any secret info, just remembered stuff from long ago press. If you hadn't posted the quandary, I wouldn't have answered.
I hadn't seen your reply to the anon until I saw this, and you definitely weren't the only one who replied or sent me a message. It wasn't meant as an attack, and I'm sorry if it seemed that way.
If you have interviews, I'd love to see them, but right now there's nothing I can find to archive here that confirms what you said. Unfortunately there's more than one way to find out that information, beyond an interview with him, so for that reason I chose not to post any of the messages I received. Again, I'd love to see a new interview (that's half the excitement of running this thing) so please send it in if you find one!
One think that caught my eye, is that Norman never uses gender pronouns when he talks about Daryl's potential sex life. He always says 'you', not 'her', like most guys would do. Hmm. (my happy mind says its part of his baby stepping viewers to the fact that daryl will be attending the first post ZA pride parade). And with Martinez, and the cigs.. not only a post coital ref, but major use of oral fixation for flirting. He chatted with him. Like first date, get to know you talks. Post ZA Grindr!
yEAH!! good eye/ear thing! Norm also is the one who is CONSTANTLY deflecting conversations about Daryl's love life into Daryl/Glenn, which is usually played for a laugh, but I think it's noticeable anyway since not a lot of people are comfortable making those kinds of comments about their characters. Norman's always been very egalitarian in how he approaches the concept of Daryl having a love interest, if he's ever been open to the idea at all. That's a good catch on the pronouns!
And dude, seriously. He and Martinez were basically full on "so, tell me about yourself" lighting each other's cigarettes looking at each other while they caught their breath. Like they were RIGHT THERE. that's textual, damnnnn.
I totally co-sign your Daryl is gay theory. I totally thought he was gay & then seeing Norman kid about stuff, I thought bless him, he is easing middle America into the idea. It was only after I saw the chaos in the fandom, that I saw him becoming a teen ideal, paired to Carol or Beth. Because it sells, and tv is money, I fear thats where he is going, but I still side with you. How freaking revolutionary that would be too. I live in the South, his character is a god here; it could be epic.
Like I said in one of my recent posts, if they do decide to make him be canonically bi or het, I don't see them pairing him with Beth- the age factor and the abuse factor are too huge and I think it would gross a lot of people out in a really negative way- in a justifiably negative way, whereas supporting a queer Daryl will be challenging the audience positively. Plus one of their executive producers is a woman and there are female writers, and I don't see adult women approving of that kind of thing. If they're going to make him be bi or het, I think they'll pair him with Carol, 900%-- but that's if and oNLY if they go with making him interested in women and WOW THAT'S A BIG FUCKING IF there's a LOT OF REASONS TO THINK THEY'RE NOT DOING THAT. they sure as fuck are taking their sweet time to make him straight :) four seasons is a really long time to keep a popular character so fixedly neutral.
Daryl kinda turning into sex-symbol-fan-favorite was unexpected for them initially, but it's also been how it is for a few years now. If they didn't hook Daryl up with Carol in S3 (which was a huge season for the show in terms of popularity, in terms of Daryl's exposure and screen time, and in terms of Daryl's fuckability because damn son s3 Daryl was fiiiiine and Carol totally wanted to get it in) then I don't think they're going to hook him up with anyone rashly.
This show consistently underlines that they're not afraid of taking the big risks. That they're not afraid to kill off the fan favorites. They shouldn't be afraid to let them be queer either. I have my fingers crossed and I think since we've now had four seasons (and all the juicy supergay things that happened in S4-- Rick's name, ugh, kill me now) of deliberate DELIBERATE silence and buildup and I think that we have a genuine resaon to hope.
