it’s wally wandering in those nebraska cornfields looking up at the stars and feeling so very very alone even though he knows there’s people out there who love him. some days they just seem so out of reach.
wally trying to decide if any of those far away stars are looking particularly green at any given moment. blue valley is where dreamers go to die but sometimes wally can look up at the stars and remember that one of the people that looks out for him the most in life has managed to escape the stratosphere and find a place and adventure among the stars and maybe he can do that here on earth
i will push the uncle hal agenda until the day i die
sometimes it’s not just about running it’s about being any place except blue valley, it’s about going somewhere where he can just be who he is without somebody questioning that. without a “quit dreaming” without a “get your damn head out of the clouds.”
it’s honestly no shock to me at all that wally would connect to hal so easily because they both were raised by people who didn’t understand or really didn’t care that they were meant for greater things and wanted them to be a certain way and like. they’re not the same person but they are, in a sense, because they would just Get Each Other so bad. and I do think when Wally runs away sometimes he’ll go to Hal, too, because Hal’s the only adult he trusts not to snitch, cause Hal knows how badly he needed someone like this in his life way back when he was climbing flagpoles on Air Force bases just to get his feet off the ground because his mom wouldn’t let him fly.
all I’m saying is that wally being “a natural” at the whole kid lantern gig for that one afternoon was not a mistake.
from flash & green lantern: the brave & the bold #3, which is a short run I highly recommend to anyone with brainrot like mine (kid lantern wally my beloved)
