6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

honestly, i don’t think so - not because fandom doesn’t influence my taste, but because i very rarely hate pairings. i might not ship them, and i might get annoyed at some of the shippers, but i can usually see why the character dynamic appeals to people. things get popular for a reason. if my feelings are strong enough to be classified as hate, i’m past the point of fandom changing my mind.

that said, fandom has certainly made me interested in ships i was lukewarm on. when i first finished atla, i wasn’t super into kataang because aang is so young. i’d heard tell of the great shipping wars, and my take was “why are we assuming a fourteen-year-old girl has to be paired off at the end of the show?” but when i started engaging with fandom, i started thinking about the gaang’s lives post-canon, and i realized i do actually like the idea of aang and katara getting together. in my head, they’d just hug in that last scene and get together a year or two later.

A random headcanon: bato is a very tactilely artistic person. sewing up costumes or tanning hides or carving bone or wood. post-war he and sokka do arts and craft bc that’s what they both deserve <3

OK it would have been Done by now if not for my self sabotaging of overcomplicating it. the idea started with just like-- how gnarly sokka being blood bent looked? with all of yakone’s focus on him? and if sokka already has chronic issues (with his old leg injury, etc...) 

so toph, maybe on her patrol that evening, notices someone’s still in the council building (?) and finds sokka still in his office hours after he usually leaves 

i feel like it would have caused a flare up in his leg, and frankly with how their arms were manipulated that has got to have been GNARLY on the joints/muscles 

i’m really not sure what toph would Do about it, probably end up getting him to the cultural center somehow to find a water tribe healer? but sokka would be too stubborn to do it himself, bc he wouldn’t be able to get there himself so he’s just sitting at his desk like mmm this flare will pass i think, i just need to nap here. but toph being the best little sister... idk.
