David Brin's Uplift Series. Seriously good space opera that has a rare combination of good plot, complex characters, extensive worldbuilding and really alien aliens. Also, if you haven't, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga .

I was tagged by @kat-har, and gosh, looking at my WIPs, I have A LOT that are at seven pages and longer. O.o I need to start finishing these puppies up. 

To the oldest one is called A Princess of Vanaheim and is actually about Frigga. I’ve been working on this one on and off for years now. The WIP is about ten pages long at the moment. It’s supposed to be a slow burn Odin/Frigga, from when they were both younger and different people, but the seeds of the people you see in the movies.

Frigga then turned her gaze to the healer. It was a statement of the Aesir that even their healers wore armor. The man stood between her and the cot, scowling at her, his fists clenched at his sides. His body shook with barely controlled rage.

“I have been instructed by my king to heal your prince.” Frigga kept her voice calm, clear, and commanding. “You will step aside and let me attend him.”

“How do I know you will not kill him?” the healer demanded.

Frigga met his gaze evenly. “If I wanted to kill him, I would just leave.”  

It was the healer who looked away first. He glared at the floor as he said, “If you do anything to harm him…”

“Then I would be disobeying a direct command from my king and jeopardizing the peace between our people,” Frigga said coldly. “I will do as my king commands. Will you?”

Here’s a second story clip because I feel like I owe you guys since I haven’t posted in a long time on Ao3. It’s a clip from the OT3 AU no one asked for universe. This story, called Almost My Baby, is literally all angst and pain, of the Steve/Bucky/Peggy variety. 

Peggy’s gaze had dropped to her cup, and Steve looked like Bucky had struck him.

Bucky couldn’t deal with it. He couldn’t deal with Steve’s baby blues or Peggy’s refusal to cry when she was truly upset. He couldn’t deal with the fact that he was the only one who seemed to remember the deal they had agreed on after Steve and Peggy got married. They wouldn’t have kids. They couldn’t have kids.

Because if they had kids, it would have to be Steve and Peggy. They would be Steve and Peggy’s kids. Another tie to bind them together without Bucky. And Bucky couldn’t handle that.

Tears stung his eyes, and he blinked them back angrily. “We said we weren’t going to have kids, and we’re not going to have kids. That’s that.”

He then stormed out of the kitchen.

You’ve got no obligation to re-admit people into your life, and why bother? Great that they’ve grown. They can keep doing that… over there. Away from you. It’s not holding a grudge, just not thinking they have anything you want to add to your life.

Yeah, it just seems like a lot of effort for basically negative return.   

I dunno, I guess we get it drummed into our heads early on that you need to forgive and be the bigger person or what the fuck ever, but that’s about as stupid as “sticks and stones will break my bones…”.

Yes that’s exactly it. But I think he still half thinks he’s being Evol Phil instead.

… which is a good part of the essence of Garrett, sadly.  Garrett took in and shaped Ward, just as Phil took in Skye - Daisy, dammit, I’m having as much trouble as Phil is.  *sigh*  But oh, how different are their approaches.

Yeah honestly I'm shocked at some of the sequences they're making work in this show. Things, like the birthing sequence, that'd have me rolling my eyes anywhere else. And the rocket launcher. (It did HAVE to be in Iceland, the birthing sequence.)

I know right? That bit was sheer perfection.
