JIM CHASED THE STARS and not his father’s legacy. even when pike persuaded him into starfleet using the name kirk, it was on the promise that jim would not captain a ship. for as long as he can remember he has had nightmares of what his father must have faced, the moments he had to endure before death. and then came tarsus, and though jim had been a leader of children destined to fall, it had made him certain, as the starvation set in and his decisions still allowed them to die, that he never wanted to have the ultimate responsibility on his shoulders again. ❝ captain? bones said you needed me on the bridge. ❞
science and space though, these things call to him. even though the rank of first officer is too close to captain for comfort, jim treasures the home he has found on this ship and the friendship he has found in spock too much to leave.
