The planet Krypton is destroyed in the backstory of Superman, and all that remains of it are it's last son and daughter, radioactive remains, and the bottled city of Kandor.
Krypton is named after the element of the same name, which comes from the Greek "kryptos", meaning hidden, concealed, secret.
Kandor, meanwhile, comes from the word "candor", meaning openness, honesty, truth.
Krypton initially exists only as a mystery, a memory not even Superman remembers himself. It's where he comes from, but he knows nothing about it.
Kandor shows him what Krypton really was, warts and all. It shows him his people, his culture, his history. It reveals the truth of the mystery.
When mystery and secrets are destroyed, all that is left of it is truth.
I only just now realized the point of that naming scheme.
