“Describe how a web page is transferred from a web server to a user’s browser [4 marks]”
When a web browser fetches a file from a web server, it does so using HTTP, protocol which means the computer will send a request for the web page and the web server sends a response. The User first types/clicks on webpage he wants, he is connected to the internet (wifi or ethernet …) and his wifi router connects him to his ISP who forwards him to a DNS server which gives him the IP address to connect to, he connects to the web server database and requests the web page from the web server, the web server then sends him the web page in packets using TCP/IP, the users browser will send back acknowledgments to say that the packet has been received.

1.5 Authenticity
What is Authenticity?
Authenticity means establishing a user’s identity beyond reasonable doubt. Authenticating the user is crucial in many scenarios, particularly in business and legal matters. A simple example of authentication is a user login to a network. A more advanced example would be the use of encrypted digital signatures in a business transaction or the use of watermarking on digital photographs.
Translation:
Authenticity is to ensure that the user is who he claims to be. It is very important in companies which store important, personal information. The most simple example of authenticating a user is through the use of a username and password system to login to a network. There are other more reliable and secure methods like Biometrics (using biological parts of the human to ensure who they are, such as retina scan, or fingerprint scan.)

Many organizations are developing intranets in an attempt to address the problems in their IT developments, shown in item 1 on the opposite page. To what extent are intranets likely to overcome these problems?
The intranet is a business own private computer network which is protected against unauthorised users. IT uses IP technology to securely share part of organisations information or operating system. It can be used to overcome many of the NCC’s problems which are limiting IT development in the organisation.
The first problem they are experiencing is inadequate communication between the IT department and the rest of the organisation, intranet would help overcome this problem by allowing business information to be stored centrally and accessed at any time, by storing the information on a database. However if the intranet was to have some downtime, none of the data would be able to be accessed because it is all stored centrally, and none of the data would be able to be updated. However this could cause security issues because all this data is stored in one place and would be a target for potential hackers. Therefore installation of a updated firewall and anti virus would be essential, as well as maintaining constant backups of the data and having sufficient physical protection for it.
Setting up an intranet would improve and renew the “poorly designed and inflexible legacy system” because it would share the operating system with all computers on the network. This would remove compatibility issues within the organisation’s systems because they would all be sharing the same programs, and network. However reliability issues could arise due to overload on the server or crashing of the server. This would cause everyone in the organisation to not have access to their files and could cost a lot of money for the organisation if there was major downtime.
Using an intranet system would improve the reputation and perception of the IT department because they would result in reduction of paperwork for the organisation, better customer service due to service forms being easily accessible, better internal communication, sharing of resources and better practise.
In conclusion setting up an intranet network would a great attempt to overcome the problems currently facing the IT department; however it is vulnerable to many problems due to the data being accessed by most of the organisations staff could result in reliability issues by the server crashing or being overloaded, resulting in downtime for the whole organisation. It could also be vulnerable without the sufficent protection through firewall and antivirus, as well as a backup of the data being maintained and updated. Even with these problems the intranet would be a very good solution to overcome these problems because it would address the problems directly and would be more efficent and cost effective to do so

The next time someone tells you that playing video games is a waste of time, feel free to bring this up.
Over a three-week period, gamers playing Foldit, an online protein-folding game, helped to map out the structure of an enzyme that could be used to help fight HIV and AIDS.
Im also using this for my ToK as a new way of thinking.© Kallam
