Since neo never gave us any idea of what Jazan’s mother looked like, I decided to draw her for them.Â
She was a yellow eyrie that ruled by Razul’s side until her untimely death. She was known as the Jewel of the Desert and initially was a benevolent, but strict ruler. Toward the end of her reign, she had lost interest in the people and enabled her husband to inflict terrible laws on the empire, indulging him in a joint vision of destroying the desert and ultimately the world together.Â
While officials from the palace claim that her death was self-inflicted, the Qasalan people and Jazan believe to this day that her husband was the one responsible.

quick doodle sketches of Razul and Kaestel, former emperor and empress of qasala respectively from the first few years of their marriage, or the not terrible for literally everyone involved years
some follow up lore below. and it does have more mature themes, so if you don’t care for that, just enjoy the art (:
Lore:
Kaestel was known as the Jewel of the desert, even from a very young age. She was famed for her beauty and intellect and many princes, Razul included, vied for her favor. Kaestel was also the only princess in the desert, creating a ferocious competition for her favor. Razul knew at the time she was too young to be wed and knew her father forbade him from marrying until she was of age, and instead spent many years winning her favor by manipulating her from a young girl that he was the best suitor available with his vast wealth and dream to have the desert in his palm. Kaestel, likewise, had heard of the rumors of Razul’s blood thirsty nature and his questionable sanity. She used that to her advantage, having the same desire to conquer the desert. Kaestel used Razul’s paranoia and delusions of the world against him, manipulating him to believe she was the only one capable of destroying the world with him and the only one to hold the key to his sanity.Â
The two wed when Kaestel turned 20 and Razul 37. Palace officials reported the first few years of their marriage was bliss. They were never seen without one another and Razul’s cruel tendencies disappeared, leaving the servants relieved to escape his sadistic wrath for some time. It is said by palace officials that for the first few years, this was the only time they had ever seen Razul happy and the only time they ever considered the couple to be a good fit.Â
Of course, they never saw what occurred behind closed doors. Kaestel’s tolerance of Razul’s dark magics came at a price. They only noticed a change, a deep disturbance between the two once it came time for the two to produce an heir. It was then, that marked the decline of the empire as both the emperor and empress showed their true colors.

just as a general warning, the way I have their relationship in my headcanon is that is was NEVER a healthy one and both side abused their powers over the other. it was an abusive relationship for the most part, and while in some times it was not nearly as bad, the power dynamic between the two was always out of balance and both individuals were bad partners. tl’dr: razul and kaestel were terrible people who did terrible things to each other and don’t really deserve much sympathy.
