I’ve decided to take this much needed break from studying to let you guys all know a little secret. Maybe it’s not a secret anymore because I know the majority of you have quite possibly, maybe just a little bit, fallen in love with Lucy. While we have had our ups and downs, especially in the last week, she still remains the most supportive, understanding, kind person I have ever met. When I interrupt her “movie of the night” at midnight asking her to help me study, she doesn’t even hesitate. I send her Powerpoints with disgusting images of bloody, messy surgery - usually resulting in some sort of wretching from Lucy - but she continues to quiz me, even with her eyes closed. We struggle through our countdowns, with each time getting harder than the previous one, but there’s never any doubt that we won’t make it. My stress may interfere with our idea of a perfect relationship but we never let that deter us. Lucy is amazing, in every way. I am lucky to have such an amazing person not only as my girlfriend but my partner in crime, the love of my life, my study buddy, and my best friend. I love you. 29 days.

As Lucy has officially taken off and I’m lying silently in my bed, it’s finally hit me that once again, she’s gone. It’s been an amazing fifteen days together, as usual but the time never seems long enough. This break, more than ever, was focused on bettering ourselves and our relationship. We needed to spend time solely with each other, in excess, to see how we would react to the annoying quirks of one another. I realized something midway through our time together though - Lucy’s imperfections make her the most perfect person I’ve ever met. Of course, everyone says that about their significant other but it’s true. I would be overly blessed to be allowed to spend the rest of my life with that magnificent, blonde hair that knots too easily, beautiful eyes that are practically blind, intelligence with an overwhelming hint of sarcasm, dance moves that aren’t really comprehendible, and grace with little self confidence girl that she is. She holds my heart in the palm of her hand and although I used to feel vulnerable by this, I’ve learned that she would give her life to protect it. As I lie in my bed, dreading the silence that surrounds me, I also remember how lucky I am. Lucky to have found the love of my life. Lucky to have a soulmate who is so unbelievable beautiful, inside and out. Lucky to be blessed with such happiness. Lucky to have found my Lucy.

As I’m getting ready for my Transition ceremony (celebrating being done with coursework and moving back to the US for our final year of Vet School) this afternoon, I look back on the last two and a half years and I see one person. One person who stood by me, through all the stressful nights, final exams, time differences, and power outages. One person stayed up late every night, helped me study for hours, supported me no matter what crazy plan I had. One person who brought me peace in the chaos, confidence in my weakness, and support in my trying times. I love you Lucy. Thank you for putting up with me the last two and a half years. I promise it will be worth it.
