Okay, so Yixing brought a handful of trainees with him on a variety show and they all performed a shortened down version of Sheep. It’s been kind of a meme of Yixing constantly talking about ‘balance’ within dancing, and this performance actually validates all that he said. To me there are only three trainees that can actually hold their own with Yixing, who we all know is a wonderful dancer who aims for perfection, but doesn’t lose any of his gracefulness and coolness. In the trainees defense, they are also competing AND memorizing multiple choreographies, so Yixing must have shortened the choreo to be more simple so it would relieve some pressure from them. For a lot of them, this might be their first appearance on a TV show, so that stiffness we might see might be from nerves and not wanting to screw up on live television performing their mentors song. That’s a lot of pressure for a trainee who is still training. Also, Yixing doesn’t go as hard as he usually does in this song, which makes that gap of experience, raw talent, natural perfection, and balance to make it so the trainees don’t completely stick out. In my opinion, and this is going to sound REALLY harsh, these boys are wanting to debut in an idol group. They NEED to be able to pick up multiple, complex choreos no problem. This will be their job, and in my opinion, this is an excellent way for Yixing to judge who is not only capable, but who strives to do everything they can to make sure they win. I hate showing my bias, but honestly, Cai Xukun, is one of those three trainees I talked about who could hold his own with Yixing. He’s incredibly hard working, motivated, and most importantly, he’s disciplined. Also, Yixing has some sort of special spirit in him that makes him idol-worthy. I feel Xukun has that as well. He’s always sticking out to me when I see him train and perform. You can see how much he wants this, and the mentors and Yixing recognize that. You can’t teach that desire, that’s all innate, and they will always be most deserving when they succeed. From what I’ve seen, his personality is quite humble and positive. He’s there to do his best and not create problems or drama. He’s also loyal. He picks people regardless of rank, and he can see the others capabilities, for their group performance. That team oriented spirit will definitely come in handy in the following weeks. I really hope he continues to show me this positive, humble side to him, as it’s really doing him a lot of favors.
