Q & A with Your Fave Creators
To celebrate our 10th year, we asked a bunch of you some questions about being a part of the Shinkane fandom. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting your answers.
Today, we are featuring @k0gamis, a community fanauthor.

Tell us about the first time you watched Psycho-Pass.
I watched it for the first time in 2014 right as season 2 was airing. I remember scrolling through n3tfl!x looking for something to watch and being intrigued by the cyberpunk-esque aesthetic in the thumbnail and the dystopian vibes in the summary so I started watching and fell in love quickly with Akane and the world. I ended up binging it in a couple days and started having dreams about it on the first night I watched it!
Kogami and Tsunemori have an interesting dynamic. What about it interests you?
I think what I like the most is how different their outlooks are in spite of their similarities as people in the same profession (for a time anyway lol). I like that they have different approaches to things with the overlap that contributes to their strong bond. I like that there is much for them to learn about themselves from each other.
Psycho-Pass has an anime, a manga, a game, and the novels. From all of that, what is your fave canon Shinkane scene?
For me, it’s a tie between the reunion scene in the 2015 movie - which was full of the sweet, sweet unresolved tension I live for, coming after a whole season in which Ko's missing presence was resounding and starting with a fight scene demonstrating each of their individual growths and moving into a long, silent standoff where the clouds part and the sun comes out and we learn the trust between them is still there through Ko running towards her pointing a gun at him and he protects her from the drone crashing through the wall and I'm really normal about it!! and the other scene being the phone call Ko makes when he's escaping after killing Makishima (not shown in the anime) where we learn he’s bordering on regretting his decision after hearing the hurt in her voice and she says she believes they will meet as ordinary people one day.
What was your inspiration for this specific piece?
My submission for the last sk week was a wip that had been sitting in my drafts for a while and I don't remember exactly how inspiration came to me, but I think I thought it would be fun to play around with Ko's feelings and make him jealous of Shizuka spending so much time with his s/o after freeing her from jail when that was his goal, which would lead him to fuck her in Shizuka's office as his way of getting pointless payback, so to speak. But I (clearly) didn't get very far lol
What challenges did you face? (So, did the words work / did the lineart work / did the graphics work, etc?)
Staying motivated enough to prioritize working on it over other things.
Which Shinkane work are you the proudest of?
My current wip/fic titled Gravity.
Music can be an influential part of your process. What song(s) do you listen to that have influenced your work? Alternatively, what are your favorite songs that remind you of Shinkane?
I am most influenced by songs that, regardless of lyrics/language, emulate a particular emotion or vibe that I feel compelled to channel into a scenario in my head through words. generally angsty songs remind me of them rather than happier love songs. The song that I have been most influenced by is the song that singlehandedly inspired Gravity, titled "kimitooku" by ling toshite sigure, which inspired one specific scene that then had the entire fic built around it. This will be on an 8 track playlist I have been painstakingly curating which has other songs that remind me of Shinkane and/or the fic's plot. Other songs that remind me of them are "Bells In Santa Fe" by Halsey and "Swallowed in the Sea" by Coldplay.
Tell us something that the Shinkane fandom wouldn’t necessarily know.
About me? I guess that I have aphantasia? My writing has been described before as painting a picture of what’s happening as if you were watching a movie (or along those lines, idr the exact wording) and I think this characteristic of my writing stems from having aphantasia. I often struggle to picture things in my head, but when I'm writing I can get scenarios to play out (though it's hard to keep control over it, it's hard to describe).
What is your favorite part about being in the Shinkane fandom?
I like that, even though we are small, there are lots of creative folks who all share one muse. I guess that's not really specific to the Shinkane fandom though.
What are your hopes for Shinkane in future seasons?
I hope they interact more and get to work together towards a shared goal again.
