Stella my love! I did a little twist on this one and made it a Cassian character study
9. I can’t let you go from this list
WC: 500
Spies, saboteurs, assassins.
Assassins.
Assassins with targets and kill orders. Heads in rifle scopes. Heads that belonged to people. People that belonged to families. Snuffed out in an instant under the guise of rebellion or progress. Taking back what’s ours by taking what belongs to you. Empty dinner tables and full caskets.
Cassian’s stomach turned time and time again. No matter how he tried to detach himself, he carried every kill with him. His shoulders were starting to crumble under the weight of the bodies that piled on top of him while he fought for a poorly earned night’s sleep.
It was a slow sickness. It spread through his organs and his limbs bit by bit, year by year.
Like clockwork, another order came through. He nodded like he was supposed to. He laced his boots and packed his bags on autopilot. Checked the ship’s diagnostics, cleaned his rifle.
Cassian was double checking his pack when Jyn passed in front of him like a shadow. The setting sun illuminated her in his field of vision. The outline of her strong shoulders, the wisps of hair blowing in the wind, two fierce green eyes burning brighter than any stars they had traveled to.
Her brow was set hard and her full mouth turned down in a frown.
“You’re not going.”
Confusion drew his lips and brows together, “What?”
“I can’t let you go,” she reiterated, standing still as a column, holding up the foundation of everything he had become.
Cassian’s movements slowed as he rose from his crouched position, grimacing a little as his joints bore the weight of everything he carried.
“Jyn, what’s this about?” He extended a hand to gently hold the underside of one of her crossed arms. She allowed the contact and softened a little.
“Don’t you see what this is doing to you? What they’re turning you into?” Her voice came out as a hissed whisper, “Every time you pull that trigger, a part of you dies as well.”
Jyn’s words were like a blow to the gut, knocking the wind out of him. Striking him with her full strength would’ve hurt less. It stung because it was true.
Cassian hung his head. Her words from the time they met echoed in his mind every time he boarded his U-Wing.
“Orders? When you know they’re wrong?”
All the ground they had gained in the last few years meant nothing if he couldn’t live with himself.
Jyn’s hand found his waist and he lifted his eyes to meet hers, impossibly softer now. She looked at him with compassion and understanding, and he would never understand how she still could.
“I’ll tell them to send someone else,” he nodded, giving his word.
“You’re more than a weapon, Captain,” she squeezed his hip firmly and exited into the hangar.
Cassian watched her walk away, feeling his resolve strengthen again, hoping one day it could stand next to hers and not look pitiful in comparison.

hey :) just a quick question, can we pick prompts for the rc fluffbruary and make visual creations (gifsets, moodboards, etc)?
yes! visual creations absolutely welcome and loved đź’• we've got a couple of artists who've signed up, as well as some others who've expressed interest in making some gifs/edits, so definitely any form of creation you'd like! (and i'm also personally really excited at the prospect of getting some visual creations in here)

Okay so during the war? I imagine them tinkering around with tech and droids and stuff, maybe watching a holo, definitely cuddled up close because those bunks are small of course. maybe when jyn makes an honest man out of cass and marries his ass, they get a bigger room but it doesn't really matter because what is personal space for them??? I also see cassian having a real thing for a well-stocked kitchenette, and maybe they cook together? or at the very least he cooks and she supervises lol a bitch after my own heart ❤️
after the war, all of that but I see them living an unsettled life for a while, shacking up on a ship and traveling around to see the galaxy without the empire looming large, but even when they do eventually settle down (on festtttt lol or wherever I like takodana too, that's a nice bit of fanon that comes up often). they'd definitely eat WELL after the war. cozy festian nights in? maybe he makes a nice batch of pozole rojo or mole poblano or something, all I know is they EAT
49. Does either of them have a hard time being away from the other?
lol yes. I mean, they deal with it, but of course they do. imo cassian has always seemed more unhinged canonically about having eyes on jyn at all times so I think he'd actually be the one to have a harder time, plus I always headcanon him being more involved with command after a promotion or three - by rotj he's a general To Me so he wouldn't be in the field like he used to be.
but I don't think jyn would have an easy time of it either. that said, they do work well together so I'm sure they'd do a fair number of missions together. and then he'd be a total dork and follow her to endor.
So fun little fact, this is from the WIP for a prompt you sent me literally like 5 months ago and that I only got around to actually starting this month, oops? 🫣
❄️Share a snippet from a WIP of your choosing.
If anyone had thought to warn Jyn how fucking cold Lothal got at night, she might not have been so excited to get off Hoth.
Not that it was supposed to matter. They were only supposed to be planetside for a few hours, tops. Bodhi had dropped them in the western outskirts of the capital city and they’d taken a public transport into one of the residential areas where the drop point was waiting, and that had all been as quick and quiet as they could have hoped. The pick-up went smoothly, the datastick they came for tucked safely into an interior pocket of Cassian’s jacket. It was the sort of operation usually assigned to far less experienced teams, or someone on the way back from somewhere more important. They’d only been assigned it because Cassian’s knee was causing him trouble after the last time they’d ended up running for their lives, and he refused to be benched for something so trivial as life-altering injury.
All that to say that it should have been easy. That should have been it. But of course, they could never be so lucky.
margaret carter was known to most as the founder of shield. but i just know her as aunt peggy. […] i asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage at a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. and she said “compromise where you can. where you can’t, don’t. even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say ”no, you move“.
