This is a project I put together with some old film. It’s very different from what I normally do, no singing, just me. To elaborate a little on the context, there’s been a lot going on inside of me and I’ve not known how to safely express my toxicity. Once I got into the art of this, I found myself feeling unusually safe in the darkness of my room, with the heat blowing from beneath my bed and a heavy motion pulling me, I developed a sweet peace in allowing it to sway me. I was syncopated with a thick matter and I let it run over and through me like my own blood. I felt love for myself in my skin, I could feel such relief in simple rhythm. I felt more beautiful, bare skinned and abandon than I’ve felt in months. Though there was a deep moment of grief that overwhelmed me towards the end I think to myself now, even though there is so much pain inside our bodies resting in the meeting place of our neck and shoulders, manifesting in panic, stress, worry, all grinding down our back bones into our hips and lowing down to our knees, that pain can go, even for just moments. Speak to it to move, confide in yourself, trust your mind, don’t allow it to be polluted by doubts and demons. Let peace that passes all understanding come and put that arch back into your spine and straighten you up. Be so easy with yourself that people are in awe, so that they might be easy too. Self love may come and go like the changing of the winds, but it always moves, and it’s always coming. Let it come.
