Autumn colors at Jusanji Pond, Juwangsan National Park.
Submerged willow trees of Jusangji Pond, Juwangsan National Park.
Completed in 1721, Jusangji was created as an agricultural reservoir. Now it is one of Korea’s premier scenic spots, especially in the morning, when it is covered in mist. It’s best known as the filming locale for auteur Kim Ki-duk’s 2003 art house classic “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring.”
Just a note - when I last visited way back when, it was a lot less “discovered.” When I returned this morning, I had to compete with hundreds of other photographers and hikers for a spot to put my tripod, despite arriving an hour and half before sunrise on a morning when it was four below zero.
