Now I want to finish this raunchy ass Justified fic and write a fluffy stupidly cute one of Boyd Meowder and Raylan Kittens, after my own stupidly cute bonded cats.

I was reading your post about Scandal and how the Ted's father didn't respect him and I think I know another example of that. I don't know if you've watched Justified but the Pilot Ted’s father is also abusive and doesn’t respect him. There was even a scene before his death where he blatantly refused to make peace with his son. Though now that I think about Raylan did have some other weaknesses as a Ted. He didn't end up with his Robin and they had a daughter (the Barney had a son). 1/2
The Robin also left or was ready to leave him multiple times and actually cheated on him before the show and married the guy she cheated with (even though it was clear she always loved the Ted more). I guess that could be the reason for his other weaknesses as a Ted, that he didn’t have a strong ”hold” on his Robin. His father also respected the Barney more and went to prison for him. Oh I just remember he killed a person he thought was the Ted to save the Barney. 2/2
I think I saw a few eps years ago, but I barely remember it. I don’t know that I’ll ever take another look, but in cases like this I wonder if maybe the guy in the apparent Barney position isn’t actually a Late Ted? Similarly to Logan in Veronica Mars, maybe. Usually Late Teds come with Late Robins, but not always.
Given that abusive/terrible fathers tend to be avoided due to an instinct to protect the Ted, I agree that the weak/defeated Tobin would influence the choice here (a weak Tobin causes writers to start looking down on the Ted). If said father even preferred the other guy, that could also be an argument for him raising as Late Ted.
