truly a win win!!

after all, it was said that Prince Xiao Jing was once normal, whole, stable. what if it was Jun Wu that made sure he was strange, broken, and chaotic? and unlike his cousin, he didn't have years of cultivation. he didn't have a strong upbringing to make him want to stay whole, to help him believe/know that he could be whole again. didn't have anyone that wanted to support him at all! so once jun wu broke him, he couldn't repair himself at all. and jun wu makes sure he knows that, makes sure qi rong knows that the only person that can fix him is the heavenly emperor himself :(

also by soulmate/soulmate-adjacent I see it more as negative soulmate thing. even in death, they cannot escape each other. they will forever be trapped in a cycle of qi rong falling into jun wu's hands because jun wu will always want that empty space filled, but never full. he will use qi rong as he sees fit but outside of their sorta "work" relationship and a sxual relationship, qi rong is virtually useless to him. and poor qi rong probably catches some sort of feeling for him :(
