Junpei in the instant he realizes Mahito is dangerous even to him wondering how much of that was a lie ("probably all of it", he tells himself)

Were those shared feelings a lie when Mahito told him he felt more relaxed around him?

Was he a fool to believe that Mahito insisting that he would validate everything about him, that Mahito teaching him how to be a jujutsu sorcerer, could be more than just courtesy teaching, different from manipulation?

Jujutsu sorcerers always die with regrets on their mind, people say, and Junpei is no different. As he lies there in Yuji's arms, restrained, begging for help, his mind races with those regrets

"I should never have trusted him"

"I should've seen the signs"

"I shouldn’t have let myself get so close to him, then maybe I would be safe"

"I wish I trusted Yuji more than him"

"Was I ever more to Mahito than a plaything? Probably not."

"Why do I have to be so pathetic? I study the people around me. I know the types they are, what they want to do to me. So why does all reason break down at first validation, and the first touch of feelings?"

When Junpei takes his last breath, all that lingers in his head is Yuji's voice and the sound of Mahito's laughter.
