oh Yuri.
his campus voiceline is 「僕が見付けましたよ!」 when he gets you a reward.
in Japanese, the subject is implied to me "me" when it's not spoken or if context explicitly points at somewhat else.
He keeps the subject in there, which is a) completely unnecessary and b) allows him to use the が particle, an emphasis on HIM. HE found it. Not anyone else, but HIM.
(notice less of an emphasis on what he finds and more on who finds it.)
This is also reflected in the way he says it. It could be transcribed as 「僕が見付けましたよ!」 with the amount of emphasis he puts on it.
in other words, he really, really, really wants you to know that HE found it.
yep. this is really in character for him.
HELP I AM DYING OVER CHRISTMAS VOICELINES
1. yuri sounds so panicked in his it’s okay (he is practically screaming it’s so funny he is not okay)
2. JIRO. there’s such a long pause between “dulls your mental function” and “but it does look good” HELP.
ALSO he says 「悪くないね」 or something along those lines which is SO FUNNY because it literally translates to “not bad”
“it dulls your mental function.” … (silence) “but. it’s [your outfit] not bad.”
REVELATION!!
(not really)
i’m not super familiar with japanese naming customs and kanji meanings BUT
Ritsu’s kanji, 律, is directly a part of the Japanese word for law, 法律 (hōritsu) <- where even the original prononciation is kept the same! (sometimes not the case for japanese names)
this means either the devs were uncreative in naming him, or his parents probably expected him to go into law.
律 on its own means (primarily) law or regulation. (it can also mean something in terms of east asian music scales, which could be a connection to his opera backstory & card?)
this poses interesting questions. did ritsu voluntarily go into law out of admiration of his father or was it a family expectation that he manifested into admiration of his father? had they named him so in hopes of it being a self-fulfilling prophecy, or a reminder of his roots?
i’m also wondering his mother’s position in this. we know his father was primarily the one who worked in law in his family, did his mother agree with this predetermined path for her son? did she bring him to operas to cultivate the other side of him implied by his name?
i’m soo curious about his backstory now whoa
something that doesn’t quite sit right with me about the english translation of this is you can hear in the japanese version subaru struggles to call haku by his first name.
he goes: 「クサナーじゃないよね。白玖さんは…」
He literally says. “Kusana— no, Haku-san…” which i think is so sweet and reminds me of ne’s comic 🥺

someone’s probably already screamed about this but i’m pointing it out again
taiga hoshibami’s last name 星喰 means, literally, star-eat. eating stars.
a reference to his insatiable appetite, i’m sure.
bro will eventually eat the stars to sate his bottomless hunger
IT IS 2026 FOR ME WHICH MEANS I GET NEW YEARS VOICELINES WOOOOOO
inhales. I have some notes.
i don’t have all the characters’ SR cards so i don’t know all of their voicelines (i’ll have to check Danie’s later) BUT
Haru referenced a party at Rui’s and so did Rui.
rubs hands together. oho.
i think the party they’re referring to is the 「忘年会」 or, quite literally, the “forget the year party” where people (typically coworkers) throw a year-end party where they can drink their sorrows away
(this normally happens before the year actually turns but.) TELL ME THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE HARU hfkskshdjs
oh boy. after a day of partying and ringing in the new year Haru goes and gets even more drunk at Rui’s to the point where i am actually convinced he will legitimately forget the entire year lmaoo
anyways. drink responsibly! Haru doesn’t drive, but maybe you do. also it’d probably be best to not forget everything in 2025. maybe you’ll need it for the spite.
edit i just realized haru says it in katakana aww my heart
皆さんあけましておめでとう!^ - ^
crawling out of the trenches to do a translation of taiga's last conversation in the park in ep. 21 (en/jp/ch/fr)
if you've read ep. 21, you know what convo I'm talking about. I'm going to try to keep textual analysis to a minimum because I want to know your interpretations! but I will offer several translations and connotations for that.
(I'm not a Taiga girlie but I'm doing it for those who are. I KNOW WHAT YOU WANT)
anyway ep. 21 spoilers under the cut, also it's a massive essay. sorry.
