junmyeon had spent the majority of the week trying to fold these stupid hearts, practicing over and over again. he wanted to make sure to get them right, and make them absolutely perfect for youngjae. junmyeon had the feeling that he had been a pain in youngjae’s side, and as far as he knew, no one was giving him anything for valentines, so junmyeon wanted to do something nice for him and make sure he got something.
junmyeon put his own, personal flare on the gift of course. why leave it at simple origami hearts when he could also write cute messages inside the hearts for him? words of encouragement, support, and just straight up showering of compliments were all within the six hearts he made, each heart ranging between white, pink, or red with varying hues.
“a pure light, please keep shining~”
“remember, you are capable of anything, for you are boundless potential embodied.”
“beauty, grace, elegance, perfection all in one smile - yours.”
junmyeon heads to youngjae’s place like he always does, but he’s visibly tired, having stayed up night after night this week trying to make this hearts. he knocks, and smiles sleepily when youngjae answers. “happy valentines~” he rubs his eye as he hands the small baggy with all the hearts in it over to him. “i hope you like them.”
When he opens the door for June that day, it isn’t the usual peppy young male who greets him, but a visibly drained one, and in an instant Youngjae’s prepared pout is substituted with worry. About to spout out some nonsense that could almost sound like he was worried about the other, June interrupts him as he speaks first; words that Youngjae had never thought he would hear.
The greeting on the day of love feels almost natural coming from the guy which only makes it all the more awkward to Youngjae who has always thought of valentines as some capitalist holiday meant to drain people of their money and time in the name of love. Needless to say he has never felt much sentiment for the day, and thus never felt much sadness about not expecting to receive anything either. Today is just just any other day to him, but apparently not to his friend.
“Idiot,” he mutters as he accepts the bag, opening it up with a pout on his face. He almost cringes at the contents and takes out a heart, hesitating with it in hand but opens it up eventually only to hold back another cringe. “Why are you so fucking corny?” he can’t help but ask out loud.
It’s obvious that June has folded these himself and the handwriting within also belongs to the guy in front of him. Of course Youngjae is capable of piecing two and two together, and he gets the explanation for the other’s lack of spirit and sleep. This idiot probably spent all night trying to get this just right, and what for? Someone like Youngjae who doesn’t deserve a gesture like this? Honestly he should save it for someone he actually likes.
And yet, Youngjae can’t help but feel moved. Only slightly though. No need to exaggerate. So he puts the heart back into the bag and gives it a small squeeze as he utters a very silent “thanks though,” lip shot out into a pout and glance shifted away from the other’s eyes.
