Cutout Fest in Queretaro, Mexico hosted their seventh edition in 2015, building upon one of the most prestigious forums for animation and digital art in the world. The festival invited Faiyaz Jafri to show one of his recent digital animations "Disconnector" in their main program venue, and also scheduled an artist talk in their largest theatre for him to discuss his career output. The setting was spectacular and Jafri was in fine form presenting visual and spoken reference to a career that is multi-faceted and growing into one of the most credible and awe inspiring in the world. Denver Digerati was fortunate to also be attending the festival, presenting two curated reels during the fest including a compilation of our artist commissions spanning from 2012-2015 that concluding with Jafri's latest work "This Ain't Disneyland." We captured the entire artist talk in segments, with this one covering Jafri's discussion on his Denver Digerati commission. It's a powerful work that has many layers that may not be obvious to a random viewer, but in the context of Jafri's oeuvre and career development is simply a masterpiece and likely the first visual work of digital animation to cover a historic tragedy that will undoubtedly be a relevant topic for the near and distant future. Cutout Fest was the ideal experience for anyone engaged with animation, both traditional and digital, and certainly the best hosts for artists, curators and the public alike.
