Experiencing @alvinailey 's annual performances at @nycitycenter is a treasured tradition for me during the holidays. Be sure to catch the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater 2024–25 season, which is dedicated to the life and legacy of Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison (1943-2024), before it ends on January 5, 2025!
I was blessed to attend the opening night of the 66th season on December 4 "...celebrating the lineage and legacy of AILEY that continues to open doors and break new ground in dance and culture."
(Thanks for the 🔌 @fvaral!) In tribute to #JudithJamison, the company performed an excerpt of Alvin Ailey's 'Cry', honoring her legacy and contributions. The evening also featured the 25th anniversary return of Ronald K. Brown's Grace, with a special one-night-only performance by my fave, Tony® and GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Leslie Odom, Jr. @leslieodomjr with composer, visual artist, and GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant @cecilemclorinsalvant. The night concluded with a breathtaking performance of Alvin Ailey's 'Revelations', accompanied by a live choir.
I also beared witness to choreographer Hope Boykin's @hbdance stunning 'Finding Free' debut on December 13, which featured an original score by the extraordinary musician Matthew Whitaker @matthewwhitakerofficial and my good bro Otis Brown III @ob3isme on drums (thanks Otis)!
