Realized I’ve never somehow posted about my lone wanderer here, so official JT post.
He’s catholic, he’s soaking wet, he’s pathetic, he’s my favorite son.
Lucy and my lone wanderer+courier JT Walker would get along so well if they ever met. They’d be besties I know it.
Passengers (Dir. JT Walker)
What does the film want you to look at in new ways?
Joy and playfulness. One of the biggest things that I noticed about the film was that the man was 100% aware that he could have just picked the feather off his head, but very purposefully didn’t. He exchanges looks with the woman across from him before he starts to blow the feather off the top of his head. Also, another student pointed out that no advertisements besides the Salvation Army one were visible in their response, so I kept an eye out for that as well. It’s true. The only advertisement that’s really visible is the “Sharing is Caring” Salvation Army advertisement.
To make sure that all of the shots work so that only one message, sharing is caring, comes across is tricky and has to be intentional. The main guy in the film is very aware that this is something generally juvenile and just weird, but he looks around the train, smiles and starts his antics. In this way, he’s sharing his joy for something small and inconsequential with the whole train car. This, in a sense, can be considered caring. I’m surprised that this isn’t a Salvation Army advertisement. Because he shares this happiness with the train car, there’s a slight connection and affection with and for the other passengers.
