This might be a bit out of the blue but I do need to say something. I was talking to a friend recently and she mentioned how she didn't feel like she was going anywhere with her art. That she hasn't improved as much as she could have and I just want to tell you guys here for anyone who needs a reminder or needs to hear it.
Every single person has a different art journey and life and that's okay. And while it sucks to be slower than you want to be, trust me I know, you gotta give yourself some patience and love. Everyone has a different life, different backgrounds, different bodies and brains and we all function differently when it comes down to creating.
Some people can draw for 8 hours a day while others can barely doodle something once every few months or even less. This doesn't make you any less of an artist.
I've wanted to work in the gaming industry since I first played Banjo & Kazooie way back. I'm turning 36 this year. I've been through depression, eating disorders, PTSD, health issues and I'm finally, after battling for 20 years, starting to get better. I'm setting goals for myself and drawing more often. Am I anywhere near gaming industry standards? Fuck no but guess what fuckers, it ain't stopping me either.
So you need to tell yourself that it is okay. Everyone creates in their own way AND time. Some people will learn faster or draw more often than you and improve more rapidly and that's okay. Learn what works for you and go from there.
Don't be so harsh on yourself and enjoy the art of creating something for you.
Have a good weekend everyone <3
