So it’s really fun to talk about the twin peaks mythos and the spirits and the entities involved in the plotline but like...
I think it’s important to remember that there’s a reason we only have fractions of puzzle pieces here? what we know about the mythos comes from
unreliable narrators, misinformation, misquoted historical inaccuracies
what we can perceive when we watch the show, which is subjective to each viewer
so in the end what we’re left with is...not a lot to go on, as says Phillip Jefferies. And that s important because the focus of Twin Peaks has never been on spirits, it’s always been a show about people and trauma.
If you pit your mythos interpretation against the characterization of the characters...what’s even the point anymore? What’s the point of all ‘Sarah Palmer was Evil All Along’ theories?? Seriously what’s the point?
It’s a trap, like the quest for Judy itself. What is Judy? She’s a negative force. An abstract concept, who may not have an actual will of her own. If you focus on her too much you lose sight of what actually matters.
In your trying to make sense of a mythos designed to be unknowable, you’ve erased the only concrete thing in the series, the focus of the series itself: the people and their pain.
It’s been confirmed by Mark Frost that what Dale Cooper does at the end of the series isn’t part of some master plan to defeat an all powerful evil force who’s been fighting him off. It’s done because he wants to save Laura Palmer. There’s no ulterior motive here. He just wants to keep a child from dying a horrible death.
I’m really not trying to rain on anyone’s parade here...I’m just kind of upset by the amount of theories I’ve seen that rely on Dale Cooper having an ulterior motive or theories that erase Sarah Palmer’s pain etc.
