i’ve never shipped jovari a day in my life but that pic on joven’s instagram of wes & mari sitting on either side being his shoulder angel and devil gave me serious bi love triangle drama vibes. anyways @netflix get on it

The Jovari possessed separate orifices for breathing, eating, and speaking. When a Jovari wished to speak, they would clench a muscular flap, routing exhaled air into two gas bladders behind their necks. As the air slowly escaped the gas bladders through the vocal orifice, they would manipulate the flow to speak.
This led to three peculiarities to their speech when speaking non-Jovari languages. First, that they sounded much like a bagpipe as they strung words together in a chanter. Second, that since they were capable of few vowel sounds, their vowel lengthening was quite literal and led to vowel sounds droning for seconds in words (on a side note: their written language also literally elongates vowels one block per haaab – about 1/7 of a Standard Second). And third, when they stopped talking, the gas bladders would continue to deflate with a wheezing cry ending in a pitiful fluttering like that of a noncommittal example of flatulence.
