Much respect for this because he could’ve easily said “Fuck y’all, I do what I want.” Like so many celebs nowadays do who just like bragging about being rich and/or billionaires and dismissing concerns attached to protecting culture from vultures. As someone who has been to the Caribbean and witnessed J’ouvert and loves the Black diaspora down there, exploitation is real and although some people may not think it’s a big deal to lament over the name of a rum, History/Culture/Preservation and Protection of Diasporian Black Culture is important. I hope this sets a precedent for other celebs to follow. Personally I would have a name rebranding contest with the people of Trinidad and Tobago and also make sure a percentage of profits went toward community projects there every year for the people who need it most. Perhaps school scholarships, community health/neo natal health, environmental protections etc. Ijs.
