17: My muse is dying in your muse’s arms.

Death comes naturally to those who fight in war. By the time you see battle, you become a close and fast friend - who one you’re never too keen to spend time with. You give, he takes and you know eventually he will walk you from reality to where ever lies beyond. At least he walks you - imagine having to go alone.

Ares knew death better than any. Thousands of years of War made them thick as thieves, he knew the touch intimately and yet he always came back... This time, however, something felt different.

Perhaps it was the nature of the weapon - something he didn’t even know - still embedded, burning, in his guts. Perhaps it was the rising taste of blood that surged and filled his through as he felt every aspect of his form malfunction in protest. Whatever was killing him was not of this reality - and was making him all the worse for it.

The words ran through his head on a loop as he stood atop the hill, staring out into the distance as the sun rose - conquering the very sky with legions of orange and red. His body would shift and twist as he switched from battle stance to battle stance, weapon to weapon. After some time, he felt... better. Clear. Prepared. He allowed a sigh to escape his lips before he nodded to himself and lowered himself onto the grass, watching the sunrise. 

Some time passed before he heard - felt, even - the presence behind him. It really only could be two people - and only one would hesitate. “You can join me if you wish, Hestia.” 

He had no objection to her presence but he spoke no more. He... never really had words for Hestia. For the others - like Zeus - words could flow like magma. His rage would bubble and bellow, as coherent and well-spoken as the philosophers of the Acropolis. Not for her. Not for Hestia. 

As she sat beside him, he continued to observe the shifting colours in silence. The breeze was a pleasant one, stirring the grass beneath them and he could almost feel content - even if being at Olympus continued to make him itch. 

Yet then she moved - an arm snaked around his waist and, suddenly, she rested her head on his shoulder. He turned ever so slightly to look at her - the blank yet soft expression looking back. A moment’s pause before he sighed again and his own arm moved to embrace her.

who’s the cuddler: I think a small part of Neri is - but she’s aware it won’t really happen. Ares is far from the type and she knows it but... Well, a girl can wish, y’know? 

who makes the bed: Ares, actually. He’s the God of Warriors - warriors are regimented and disciplined. Besides, how are you gonna know you fucked someone’s brains out if the bed isn’t made?

who wakes up first: Ares. Neri isn’t some brainless princess full of ennui but Ares is a soldier. Also spiteful. If you’re telling me Ares isn’t the asshole with the bugle playing Alarm then you’re fucking wrong.

who has the weird taste in music: I think Ares with regards to not really being into music.

who is more protective: Actually, Neri. Ares is a brutal realist. If someone he cares for dies, he’ll just go and try and fight Hades.

who sings in the shower: Neri - the woman’s a siren, damnit.

who cries during movies: If anyone, it would have to be Neri. Ares isn’t moved by much.

who spends the most while out shopping: Neri... But that’s not really far because Ares mostly takes.

who kisses more roughly: Ares. He knows his own strength and he’ll use every damn drop of it.

who is more dominate: Ares. Dude will not tolerate someone giving him orders. You’ll get on your knees and suck until you choke or he tells you to stop, ain’t getting a thing from him.
