I learnt something really interesting yesterday. The strongest curse words you can use in joual (Quebec-French) are not, as in English and many other languages, related to sex or the anus (or both). No - theyâre called sacres and they are all related to religion.  I learnt this when one of my Quebecois students exclaimed âtabarnak!â in frustration at something she was trying to do. Apparently the three strongest expressions are:
sacrament - itâs the same in English
So, âjâmen caliceâ means âI donât give a fuckâ.
Apparently you can also string them together to show everybody that you are really, really angry:Â âCriss de calice de tabarnak d'osti de sacrament de trovviergeâ
I want to be able to swear like this.Â
