Anyway, if you just so happen to be hovering, I'll do what I always do when it comes to books. If you're actually interested, I strongly recommend reading Incidents Around the House. It gets a lot of mixed reviews, but I do genuinely think it's a good read and was pleasantly surprised to get jump scared by a book. If you do give it a chance, I hope you enjoy it!

Incidents Around the House is one of the scariest books I’ve ever read... next to Fifty Shades of Shit... No all jokes aside Incidents is a great, terrifying fucking book
I have loved Jessica since The Help, so I have full confidence she can pull this off. She’s not ginger in this, which is the only turn-off.

"Daphne" by Josh Malerman (2022) Book Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dark and tense, with an 80’s slasher vibe I’ve only seen successfully recreated in Adam Green movies.
This is the first Malerman book I’ve read, but I’ll certainly be looking out for more.
Aside for the general air of terror underlying his writing, the way he depicts panic attacks is incredible, and I love how he thought to mention the little understood fact that sometimes they can be about nothing at all.
I also love the mystery surrounding Daphne herself, and how everyone willing to talk about her has different, sometimes conflicting information, and how Malerman keeps you guessing what’s happening until the very end.
I’d recommend this to fans of urban legends, ghost stories, and good old fashioned slashers.

I'm trying to be open minded about common criticisms of Incidents Around the House, but I find myself frustrated with people saying the protagonist doesn't come off as an 8-year-old girl.
Like, first, how many 8-year-olds do you actually know, because as someone who has worked with children, 8-year-olds come with varying personalities and understanding of the world around them. My friend's 8-year-old granddaughter had an advanced vocabulary and could land a good punchline when she was 4-5 years old.
Also, you would be very, VERY surprised at how grown up a kid can sound when they've experienced even just a slight bit of trauma, and having to hear your parents argue is a very, VERY traumatic experience.
I feel like this is a situation where there's going to be people who just don't get it because their own experiences and understanding of the topic being addressed in the story are very limited--and that's fine, but I hate the idea that these takes have the potential to deter people from reading something they might actually enjoy.
