Hello everyone
I am looking for books about the Norse Mythology.
I already have Neil Gaimanβs book.
I am looking for the Prose and Poetic Edda.
Are there any other recommendations for it. I am really interested and curious about these and would love to read a lot more.
So I can educate and inform myself more because one can never stop learning.
Hey Guys/Gals/People/Friends!
Since I'm finally on PC, and just in time for Jorgumandr, I think I'm gonna main him. I love his hamarr, his design, and Viking-ness. I'm a simple man. I see awesome Heavy class hero, I fall in love.
Anyways, if y'all want to hit me up sometime for a match or two, I'd be glad to meet some new people
Odin is a shitty dad but what about Loki?
We all know Odin is a shitty dad, because even if he does feel some affection towards Loki he does tend to wave him off or forget about him or treat him as not being important. He likes to make Thor's life impossible by controlling the shit out of it (he destroyed his relationship with Jane Foster, hid the identity of his biological mother from him, trolls him in his youth to teach him humility, turns him into a girl to teach him humility, banishes him from Asgard to teach him humility, keeps him locked in Asgard so he won't go to Midgard, etc...). Odin also banished his half-Frost Giant Son Vidar into exhile for being as big as a Frost Giant (they since made up though) As for Balder he never told him he was his dad (and they never quite dealt with the aftermath of that). Loki is portrayed in fics as being an awesome dad but at least when it comes to the comics, he isn't a great father either. He is a bit of a dead-beat dad and has fathered many kids (he admits to Spider-Man he has thousands of daughters scattered throughout the centuries), he tends to punish his kids harshly, and when it comes to Thor he is willing to walk over them just to get the opportunity to crush his brother... But he can also be a great dad when he wants to.
So here's some canon examples of Loki parenting.
Vali Halfling
Cursing your kid to be forever a teen is a shitty thing to do! And they definitely do not have a good relationship, Vali even said to Amadeus that he despises Loki.
However Loki does get some browny points for at least trying guide him in the arts of magic.
Fenris Wolf
Loki: Come my boy, you can do better than that! Don't disgrace the family! Loki: Shameful
"Son I am disappoint" Granted when Thor jumped at them he did scream "Fenris my son!" but I wasn't sure if it was because of him being worried for Fenris or Loki wanting Fenris to protect him from Thor. Although he does run away from battle leaving Fenris by himself with Steve, Tony and Thor, and later on he didn't really seem to notice that Fenris was killed by Beta Ray Bill.
One thing is for sure, Fenris is not Loki's favorite
Jorgumandr
Hela: And why help Thor now? Do you not know that he has slain the world serpent, your son and my brother?
Loki: A pity about Jormugand, my dear. But he really was becoming simply too powerful in that large clumsy way of his. Who knows what he might have broken if he had been allowed to reach his full growth.
Basically Jorgumandr gets killed by Thor, Loki thinks it is for the best. Jorgumandr is so not his favorite eitheir. Hela
Sure, Thor was only bluffing and was pretending to be corrupted by the Destroyer, whether Loki knew this or not who knows but he still just lounged there while Thor was smacking his daughter around.
Of course Hela had bragged about being the one to finally kill Thor and that pretty much set Loki off a bit (and one thing everyone should know by now is to never get in between Loki and Thor), still it's a shitty thing to just stay there and nonchalantly watch your kids getting chocked while they scream at you for help.
He does get some brownie points for intervening on her behalf later on, and probably some more because he does spend some father-daughter quality time with her (even if they are up to no good) and he does help her sometimes (and vice versa) although Loki can screw her over sometimes (which makes Hela very weary of him).
He also praises her when she does something cunning, Loki loves cunning which is something Jorgumandr and Fenris don't have so Hela despite everything might be his favorite.
Tess Black And this is were Loki gets the major good daddy brownie points. Tess Black is a respectable stock broker and the daughter of Loki with an unknown mortal woman. Tess lead a pretty normal life and is pretty much unaware of her otherwordly heritage.
Since I'm too lazy to explain more of Tess' background I'm going to let this text pulled from this Tess Black bio speak for itself.
One night on her walk home, Tess headed through Times Square as Doctor Strange and Spider-Man were battling The Nameless Ones. As Spider-Man's presence changed the dynamics of Strange's spell, one of the Faceless Ones escaped his spell and became attracted to Tess knocking her to the ground as a result. She came to consciousness eventually and wandered home. That night as she slept, she was attacked by intense pain as Morwen, the first sorceress of Chaos possessed her body. Morwen's presence on earth was sensed by the entities Death and Lord Chaos, and the Asgardians Heimdall and Loki. Among them, Loki looked upon Morwen with special interest since she had taken possession of his daughter. Loki turned to Spider-Man to save Tess as Morwen looked upon Spider-Man as her savior.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#504)- In battle with Morwen, Spider-Man realized that Morwen did not choose Tess for her godlike abilities and didn't realize them until after she possessed her. Realizing his daughter could drive Morwen out herself, Loki engaged Morwen in battle and psychically implored his daughter to tap into her anger as a defense against Morwen. Driving her out, Tess was restored to normal.
Still concealing his daughter's heritage from her, Loki found other lodgings for Tess elsewhere from Manhattan to protect her from his enemies. He then exacted a promise from Spider-Man to look after her after giving the wall-crawler her new address
And here are some scans from the Spidey comic
And when Morwen finally leaves her body
Tess forgets everything and Peter asks Loki if he's going to tell Tess about Loki being her father and Loki tells him that he won't because he doesn't want to trouble Tess with his crap and complicate her life further. At the end Loki arranges for Peter to keep an eye on his daughter and make sure she stays out of trouble.
Unlike his other kids, Tess is the normal one and thus not involved in all the crazy shit that is Loki's life, and why interrupt her perfectly good and happy life with his? If Loki wants a lackey to fight Thor with he'll get Fenris and Jorgumandr, if he wants someone to scheme with him he'll try to persuade Hela.
Tess also doesn't have the same bloody ledger and crap that Loki's other children have, and it's not like she will ever interfere with Loki's schemes anyway. She will go and have a regular Midgardian life (as regular as a normal human can have in the Marvel Universe) and then die and she really doesn't need to be bothered with anything more.
And the fact that Loki arranged it for her to continue her normal life and for Peter to protect her is a sign of good parenting from his part. No mention of Sleipnir in this post since Marvel has yet to acknowledge him as Loki's kid. So there you go, good dad? bad dad? A little bit of both? You decide.
