in case I never get back to fully rendering this! here is current progreses with big county fair kid jonnit giant chicken nap time energy
NGL I’ve got Skyjacks episode 146 permadownloaded on my phone just so I can listen to Jonnit’s introduction and Wey’s instructions. Anyone know where I can find those tracks isolated? Haven’t been able to find them online.
I don’t post about Jonnit as much as I love him but man I have to say so far I feel he’s the best written and best played character. Like his whole deal is a very common trope, plus teenagers are extremely difficult to write realistically without falling into Young Adult tropes or being just obnoxious.
Meanwhile Jonnit is such a DELIGHT. Because he’s so young even the most common scenes can be significant to him. Stress like not looking cool in front of stranger he wants to impress can be as big a deal as a boss fight. He walks the line of making common mistakes from overconfidence or wanting to be taken seriously, while not dragging down the group or being an obstacle to other players. He’s funny and flawed and convincing, silly without being obnoxious, adorable and endearing without being saccharine. My heart keeps swelling with pride when he learns or grows, or just gets smooshed any time he’s disappointed or sad. And most of all he’s just convincingly and sympathetically a teenager, rather than just “noisy child trope” or “shrunken down adult with extra angst” trope.
I LOVE!! THIS KID!!
Jonnit: Beautiful bird! Beautiful bird. [chuckling] One of the most opulent poops that have ever been pooped.

a name, a name, a chance
- A name is something given, and a name is something taken.
Or: a reflection on the characters and names of the crew of the Uhuru - or at least, the Captain's and his council's.
-
A name. Did they have it before the stars fell?
Maybe.
They aren’t sure. They have it now, two of them, one they aren’t sure when they earned, and the other chosen entirely by them.
The first.
Gable. Ga-Ble. God is bright, it whispers in quiet moments. God is bright. God is blinding.
(God is dead dead dead dead dead burned and scorned and destroyed by their own blade, the blade that gable drove through their heart, the act that made the world collapse and the seas rise and they are dead - fallen - forever)
It weighs like a stone on their shoulders. God is bright. God is blinding. God is dead.
Does it mean they are now the blinding one? The bright one? They don’t feel like it, no matter how much holy fire leaps from their swords and casts glowing light over their face. They are just… Gable.
Fallen. Wandering.
(Gable.)
drew a little Jonnit from the Campaign Podcast of Skyjacks. He’s a rowdy little skypirate and someday he’ll be a badass captain.
here’s a magical boy from patreon for y’all.
i've been catching up on Campaign: Star Wars (rip :c) and getting into Campaign: Skyjacks while i work because most media I consume these days has been whittled down to podcasts, Moomin episodes from the 90's, and watching that dude that makes knives out of weird stuff on youtube.
if you're not listening to Skyjacks you should because it is very good and Jonnit is a magical anime baby who's probably gonna end up having just the most tragic backstory. also there are seven foot tall oblivious berserker angels and nasty boi shape shifters and zombies and races on giant birds. quite the hoot.
anyway, i could have referenced Jonnit's official art but i am Very Tired All The Time and instead decided to just draw him how i envision him. which meant sketching up a crop-top wearing protagonist of a 90's anime about pirates and friendship. if i draw him again he will probably be even more anime. it's all down hill from here folks.
