[ high regard - Kyungsoo + Jongin ]
"Did you get a haircut, Kyungsoo?"
He nodded.
"You paid for it yourself?"
Again, he nodded.
"Are you going to speak to me today, Kyungsoo?"
He trailed his fingers over the smooth surface of the desk, watching his fingertips trace invisible patterns on the varnished wood. Today, as far as days went, was a good day. The weather was pleasant, the dark clouds from the day before had cleared, leaving a blue sky. The streets weren't as busy as usual - Kyungsoo guessed the Origami Killer had something to do with that. People preferred to stay in doors unless leaving the safety of their homes was a must.
"It was half price." He stated finally, gaze still on his fingers. "I swept the whole place beforehand and afterwards. So I paid half price."
"That's great, really great. You're starting to venture out of your comfort zone a little more." The doctor sat back in his chair and reached for a clipboard. He was always taking notes. Kyungsoo hated that.
"No." A smile almost graced his lips. "There is no comfort zone." Truthfully he felt uncomfortable at least ninety percent of the time. Out of place like a commoner at a fancy ball, or an orange in basket of apples. His eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly, he hadn't eaten since yesterday. "Do you have any oranges?"
The Doctor sighed. Kyungsoo could hear the faint scraping of ballpoint pen against paper. Making note of his eating habits no doubt, which hadn't changed since childhood. An orange was soon placed in front of him regardless, and with a simple glance in the Doctor's direction, the elder peeled it for him too. "An orange in exchange for eye contact, Kyungsoo? Give a little, get a little, you know the drill."
Kyungsoo raised his hand, placing his thumb between his lips in order to nibble on the edge of it. Reluctantly, he looked up. It may have only been for a few seconds, but it earned him the orange anyway. "Thank you-" Music made him freeze mid sentence. It wasn't loud, simply unexpected. The Doctor spared the glass window of his office a lazy glance, before continuing with his note taking. Kyungsoo on the other hand, rose from his seat, curiosity getting the better of him.
Through window was a group of children, and in the middle of them was a man. The younger ones stared in awe as he moved his body, in perfect timing with the beat of the music. Kyungsoo's own doe-like eyes widened, gaze taking in each turn, jump, flick, twist, spin. Before he knew it his hand was on the door, and as quietly as he could manage, he twisted the handle and stepped out onto the ward.
