Can I interest you in some AU JonGerryMichael?

Here is round 1 of a series of The Magnus Archives fic recs. There will be some fandom staples in here that I think everyone and their eldritch patron has read; my criterion is literally just ‘fics that have made me go oooh.’ 

Fics are canon and completed unless otherwise specified.

La petite mort (E) by @luftballons99: a sweet JonMartin one-shot where they flirt with poetry. It’s incredibly lovely, clever and hot while being mindful of Jon’s asexuality.

Illicio (T) by @that-one-girl-behind-you: multichapter WIP with regularly scheduled updates. A canon divergent AU and The JonGerryMartin fic for me. It reads like an action movie and it will make you feel those butterflies in the stomach. Most of all, I love Gerry's dry sense of humor.

The Magnus Institute vs the 21st Century: a series of emails and IMs (T) by @shinyopals: two epistolary fics that are among the most hilarious things I’ve ever read, with some serious Feels sprinkled in there for good measure. Alasdair Stuart read some of the emails and please, for the love of all that is holy, watch the clips.

Journey to the End; or, a Statement (M) by @saretton: a crossover with The Hollow Knight that I’ve had the utter pleasure of betaing, it’s a melancholy meditation on the End. A quiet, poignant and haunting one-shot.

At the Interim (E) by @rendherring: a series of two JonMartin fics and oof, where to start. The first one was recced to me all the way back in March by a trusted friend, so I read it, fell in love, didn’t bookmark it and promptly forgot title and author. Finding it again last week felt like coming home, I’m not kidding. The second one... Look, I rarely cry while reading fics, it basically never happens. This was the exception.

Convicted Criminals of Thought (E) by @corruptedkid: I jumped on the GerryMichael ship without a second thought, and I can’t recommend corruptedkid’s fics enough. This one in particular has a compelling plot and the coolest Gerry you could imagine, and pre-Distortion!Michael is a sweetheart.

Counting Coffee Spoons (M) by @summerofspock: a JonMartin coffee shop AU that’s everything you could want from a JonMartin coffee shop AU. Still in progress but with frequent updates, the alternate PoV is a real treat, since there’s a hilarious misunderstanding at the heart of their relationship, which I won’t spoil.

Let the Happiness In (M) by @justkeeptrekkin: another JonMartin multichapter AU, this time with Jon as a best-selling author (which is a thing I’m admittedly weak for) and Martin as a baker. Books! Baked goods! A rich cast of secondary characters! Love! Drama! Action! An ace-friendly sex scene! Literally everything you need.

Informed Consent and Other Cosmic Ironies (not rated, but I’d call it a G) by KyaraSaire (@starsandatoms): a very short but hilarious treat. Tim and bureaucracy don’t mix very well.

out in the drowning deep (E) by Wildehack: a post-apocalyptic Daisira one-shot with a fast-paced plot and a few well-placed flashbacks. It’s only 5k but I'd happily read a whole novel out of this.

Doomed from the Start (G) by @peachcitt: AU in which Jon is the new librarian at the high school where Martin teaches English; feelings quickly ensue. A feel-good one-shot that will brighten your day.

Be Your Raincoat (T) by @free-smarcher: a short slice-of-life JonMartin one-shot set before season 1, and one of the first fics I read in the fandom. I think I imprinted on the whole vibe of it: the rain, the sad music, the subtle, understated pining. The sort of thing you read while holding your breath.

Breakable Things (T) by @mia-ugly​: a pre-House of Wax one-shot with mutual JonMartin pining & Beholding powers. This one completely owns my heart.

Martin was saying something to him, that was about all Jon knew at the moment. He hadn't slept very well last night and then he came into work early, and between the energy he was using to keep himself upright and the energy to not just die right then and there, there wasn't enough energy to actually hear words.

He was so focused on not falling asleep, that the only thing that pulled him from his stupor was when Martin gasped.

"What's wrong, Martin?", Jon asked. He thought he heard a very slight staticky sound, but tired ears will hear what they want too.

"I believe he's scared of me", A staticky, joy filled, voice came from behind him, and then Jon felt something weigh down the back of his chair. He made no move to look at the thing behind him, he just sighed in relief

"Hello Michael, is something wrong?"

"I'm just bored, Gerry is out 'shopping for books' and so I thought I'd drop by"

"Well I'd love to hang out but I'm working and also exhausted", Jon told it

"How are you being so casual Jon?", Martin asked, he was pretty sure Michael had stabbed Jon in the past.

"One is usually that way when with their partners", Jon told him, "Now if both of you will excuse me I'm going to take a nap"

He wasn't kidding, he fell asleep right then and there. Leaving a dumbfounded Martin and a laughing Michael alone with each other.

"I've got him", Michael assured Martin. And so, still shocked, Martin was about to leave but paused at the doorway.

Before he could speak Michael did.

"I'm not going hurt him. I might be a monster but I'm not abusive", It told him.

"Well", Martin began, and then he paused, "Thank you I guess"

"It's not a big deal", Michael shrugged, as it laid a blanket, that it got from only the eye knows where, across Jon.

Ummmm

It starts a bit before canon and it's basically where events have just been set ahead a couple years

So Jon starts being the Archivist in like 2013 or so

And like Gerry is still alive at that point

But Michael is already part of the Distortion and has been for a little while

And it doesn't make everything earlier, just time that Gertrude dies.

And Jon and Gerry start dating in 2013 because I said so and also they probably met once Jon became Archivist and I don't have to explain myself to you

Gerry knew Michael already

Jon meets Michael before Sasha does??

Yeah, yeah I'm right.

Jane Prentiss still happens in 2015 because I don't care

Michael meets Jon yadda yadda

Michael being the flirt it is flirts with our two best boys

And they all develop romantic feeling for each other

And they start dating

And Jon forces Gerry to go to a doctor for his headaches (I need to look up if brain tumors cause headaches, I would think they do)

And they discover his brain tumor

And boom! Gerry doesn't die at a depressingly young age.

But he does have to a lot of medical hoo-ha

And Michael and Jon take care if him because they are good partners

And both of them respect Jon's boundaries and the fact that he's asexual and if I see another fic where someone either forces Jon to have sex or he chooses to do it even though it's canon that he does not like sex and I know some asexuals do have sex but it was explicitly stated that Jon does not and you can catch these hands

And they use Michael's door to go on adventures

And Jon becomes less human quicker but Michael and Gerry support him and let him take statements from bad people (Which is an idea taken from @bro-im-looking and @shaeydyrllah you two are amazing)

And it's just amazing and the archive staff have no clue about any of this

"Oh, Jon's taken the day off. Okay, we'll work on what he said to do yesterday"

"Jon's talking to that weird goth dude again, do you think something's up?" "Nah"

None of them even knowing Jon's bi

He just acts straight man

Like none of their gaydars go off around him

And it's just super funny when two years after he's been in a committed relationship with two 'people' they find out and are just super surprised and Jon's just like "They've literally both been in my office. Several times. I've told you about my exes. Tim, you've talked to Georgie. There's no way she didn't tell you any stupid stories from uni"

And they're all just like *Surprised Pikachu face*

All three of them hunting down Leitners, amazing

Can you imagine Gerry, Jon, and Michael vs. Daisy??
