On a cold, snowy winter night, John snuggled into bed with Sherlock beside him. The couple were exhausted from decorating 221B for Christmas. Soon after, his view changed from darkness to troops dashing from both sides. He looked, they werenât just ordinary troops, they were all covered in mud and dirt. He found himself standing in the middle of a battle field, both hands wrapped around a gun. Standing there blindly, he was in danger as his enemies wanted every one of his people die, in any ways, and he was letting them shoot him easily. Soon after, John found himself bleeding, his right hand was shot and was bleeding terribly. John soon fell unconscious onto the floor, not noticed by the busy battling troops. âJohn! John!â a sound came from nowhere while John was having a blackout, not any sound, but it was familiar, it was Sherlockâs voice. John was pulled back to reality by Sherlockâs voice. Of course, he didnât want his curly-haired darling worried. âIâm fine, Iâm fine.â John said, but his voice betrayed him as it was trembling furiously. âNO YOUâRE NOT! Look at you, youâre trembling all over!â Sherlock was worried, angry and relieved at the same time, as he didnât want John to carry all the stress by himself. Sherlock knew John was up to something. âIt..it..its only the Afghan War. I had it again. The nightmare I couldnât get rid of.â John took a sip of the water from the cup Sherlock had given him just in case he needed it. âOh, then we better get rid of it. I will take you to your therapist later, now get changed.â Sherlock then put the clothes he had prepared on the bed, walked out of the room and waited patiently for John.

I know itâs a bit early because I said June, but I finally started putting things together, and itâs official: Iâm taking on an admin.
This is a really big decision for me, because this blog has been mine and mine alone for more than two years now. I built it from scratch and each and every review on here has been something personal to me. The thing is that I just donât have the time to keep up with requests anymore and I donât love Johnlock as much as I used to. This blog deserves another admin whoâs willing to dedicate more time and effort.
Interested in applying? Four ...maybe not so easy steps.
1. Fill out this google form. It has pretty standard/basic questions.
2. Send me a sample review at [email protected]. This is easily the most important part of this process. This review should be for one of your favorite fics (your rating should not go below an A-), and it must follow the format I use for my reviews. If youâre unaware of what the format is check out all of my Johnlock reviews. Itâs critical to me that an admin be able to write accurate and well-written reviews. Yes, that means Iâm looking for good grammar and spelling. Iâm sorry if that comes off as nit-picky.Â
3. Reblog this post.Â
4. Read the following information:
Your internet searching skills must be above average. This might sound really dumb, but 99% of the requests I receive are really a matter of basic ao3 or google searching. I really donât have more Johnlock knowledge than anyone else; I just happen to know my way around the archives and the resources a bit better than most. If you donât know ao3 like the back of your hand, or if searching google with keywords, +/- symbols, quotation marks or anything like that is unheard of to you, this probably isnât the right place for you. Iâm just going to shatter your guysâs illusions now: a ton of admining this blog is just responding to search requests like that.
You have to deal with ...me. Sorry but this one is a must. In all honesty, Iâm probably going to be a bit neurotic; this blog is kind of my baby. If youâre not one who responds well to criticism or instruction, this is not the blog for you. I do my best to be nice, but anyone who knows me also knows that Iâm generally sleep-deprived and kind of irritable. Please be aware that I will still be on this blog! I am not giving this blog away. Iâm simply taking on another admin.Â
Thatâs it! Iâm not convinced Iâm going to get anyone whoâs willing to go through the above four steps, and if I donât get anyone whoâs interested, obviously there will be no new admin. But if you are interested, please do the above four things! Questions and concerns can be sent to my ask, submit, or email (given in step 2). Best of luck!
Just a reminder that johnlockfanfictionclub is not a fic rec blog, or at least not entirely. The main purpose of it is to provide a place where you can share your opinions about fics (currently the fourth batch, though you can write about the previous ones as well) and discuss them with other readers. Without your participation this blog is really pointless.
Since there is so little response, I'm considering closing it.
For my long overdue 2k celebration, I'm doing the usual compilation of fandom classics. This list, however, is going to be bigger and better than any fandom classics list that I've done before (and I likely will not be remaking it for a very long time).
Bolded Fics are fics that are the classics. They're so famous that no Johnlock list is complete without them.
Italicized Fics are my personal favorites.
Normal Fics are simply fics that are popular and quite well-known, but maybe not as huge or as great as the bolded and italicized ones.
This list will be divided by genre. Format is as follows:
Genre
Fic Name (Author Name | Word Count | Rating)
Angst
Alone on the Water (Madlori | 8,210 | PG)
Sherlock is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Warning: angst like whoa.
Equilibrium (augustbird | 12,351 | R)
At Baskerville, John is infected by a virus that turns him into a genius. But when the infection progresses into neurodegeneration, it's a race against time to save himself. Flowers for Algernon fusion.
Post-Reichenbach
We Go Anywhere But to the Ground (geordielover | 24,623 | R)
Every second that ticks by is a reminder of the deafening quiet Sherlock has left behind. John feels his soul slip out of his fingertips, inch by inch, with every passing day.
At some point, he stops trying to hold on.
The Quiet Man (ivyblossom | 157,369 | NC-17)
"Do you just carry on talking when I'm away?"
The Fabric of Life (orphan_account | 156,378 | NC-17)
The fabric of life rearranges itself around the re-emergence of Sherlock.
Alternate Universe
Performance in a Leading Role (Madlori | 156,716 | NC-17)
Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world?
Collared (VelvetMace | 83,028 | NC-17)
In a world where the British Empire is still strong and slavery is her economic backbone, John has become a terrorist for the abolitionist movement. He is caught by Mycroft, enslaved, and given to Sherlock for training. The goal: To test a new kind of slave collar with the power to break even the strongest willed fighter. One that will make even John learn to love being a slave.
A Study in Winning (Jupiter_Ash | 106,658 | NC-17)
John and Sherlock are professional tennis players and itâs Wimbledon. One is a broken almost was at the end of his career, the other an arrogant rising star tipped for greatness. It should have been a straightforward tournament. It really should have been. How were they to know that a chance encounter would change everything?
Man and Beast (Jupiter_Ash | 19,938 | NC-17)
Sherlock is a werewolf who is captured by a facility which wants to experiment on him. When John is placed into his cage they expect Sherlock to attack him, but instead, he tries to mate with John.
Note: So maybe this one isn't really a fandom classic, but it's one of my favorite AUs ever, so it's going in the list.
The Swan Triad (Pennin_Ink | 121,654 | R)
Sherlock and John grow up spending every summer together. Their mothersâ attempts to play matchmaker only fuel their mutual resentment and scorn. But then, one summerâŠ
Two Two One Bravo Baker (abundantlyqueer | 114,574 | NC-17)
Captain John Watson of 40 Commando, the Royal Marines, is assigned to protect and assist Sherlock Holmes as he investigates what appears to be a simple war atrocity in Afghanistan. An intense attraction ignites between the two men as they uncover a conspiracy that threatens everything theyâve ever known, but Sherlock is as much hunted as hunter, and everyone close to him is in deadly danger. Can he solve the case in time to save himself and John?
School for Scandal (rubberbird | 222,199 | NC-17)
Sherlock lusts from afar. John tries hard to fool himself.
Stranger at the Gate (bendingsignpost | 85,190 | NC-17)
As far as initiation rites go, kidnapping a human doctor from a defended town ought to seem extreme. When James Moriarty offers him the challenge, Sherlock never considers saying no.
Chameleon (VelvetMace | Indefinitely Unfinished | R)
In a world filled with Sentinels with heightened senses, strength and endurance, and Guides, with seductive empathy, who knew that seeming âordinaryâ could be Johnâs greatest strength.
The Magic of Deduction (TheShoelessOne | 65,395 | PG)
John Watson spends seven years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he meets the boy who will become the greatest man heâll ever know.Â
Long Ago and Far Away Series (lotherington | 60,840 | NC-17)
âAre you in the habit of inviting queer men back to your flat, John?â he murmured, his eyes half-lidded as he stared at John again.
John huffed a breath through his nose. âNone quite so peculiar as you,â he said after a long pause, lifting his eyes to Sherlockâs.
October, 1937. A chance encounter late one night leads to Sherlock following John home. I canât really put it much better than Vera Lynn herself:Â That certain night, the night we met / there was magic abroad in the air.
Saving Sherlock Holmes (earlgreytea68 | 139,494 | R)
Sherlock Holmes, schoolboy. Yeah, that basically sums it up.
Night Shift (corpsereviver2 | 26,126 | NC-17)
Former army doctor John Watson is a daylighter, a specialist bodyguard for vampires. When heâs hired to be the bodyguard for a vampireâs younger brother - a vampire who doesnât fit the usual vampire stereotypes of lazy aristocrat in a remote manor or wealthy, indolent playboy - John is intrigued. To his surprise, Sherlock seems intrigued by him as well.
Fluff
Two Coffees One Black One With Sugar Please Series (Linpatootie | 25,419 | R/NC-17)
Sherlock wants to conduct a sleep study of sorts. John contemplates smothering him with a pillow.
Corpus Hominis (mycapeisplaid | 47,717 | NC-17)
John knows the human body intimately. Heâs had plenty of opportunity for study as a doctor, soldier, and lover. Thereâs one particular body, however, he knows very little about. When Sherlock launches himself head-first into a new obsession and they get sent on a case in an unlikely location, the pair discovers each otherâs bodies with confusing yet delightful (and sometimes hilarious) results.
The Real Meaning of Idioms (feverishsea | 21,691 | PG)
After two weeks away, John finally texts Sherlock. He doesnât expect Sherlock to respond. He doesnât expect Sherlock to keep texting him. And he really doesnât expect things to spiral out of control so rapidly.
A Quiet Murmuration (cathedral_carver | 4,684 | PG)
Just pay me back with one thousand kisses.
A Finger Slip (pawtal | 46,637 | PG)
"You may be the most interesting person Iâve ever met."
"We havenât met."
"A minor detail."
The Velveteen Doctor (lantean_drift | 12,842 | R)
A series of events that show John just how real he has become to Sherlock â like a bright, brilliant flash of colour in an otherwise greyscale world.Â
and stand there at the edge of my affection (coloredink | 2,683 | PG)
"You've written love letters," Sherlock asserted.
Adventure/Casefic
26 Pieces (Lanning | 28,236 | NC-17)
Mycroft gives Sherlock the apparently simple task of solving a puzzle box containing a stolen microchip. It isnât simple.
Never the Twain Shall Meet (Quinn Anderson | 47,298 | R)
Moriarty doesn't just want to defeat Sherlock. He wants to utterly destroy him. He intends to do so by tricking him into making the ultimate mistake: falling in love.
Smut
A Cure for Boredom (Emmagrant01 | 81,712 | NC-17)
Theyâd never talked about sex in the year theyâd known each other. Well, that wasnât quite correct: Sherlock had never said a word about sex; John had bemoaned his personal dearth of it on many occasions.
Parentlock
Where I Cannot Find You (withoutawish | 22,211 | R)
When Hamish is diagnosed with cancer, his parents have two entirely separate ways of coping.
The Blog of Eugenia Watson (Madlori | 93,036 | PG)
I like to think of this not so much as a blog but as the first draft of my inevitably best-selling memoirs. My Life In an Unconventional Family. How unconventional? Well, I live with my divorced parents and my dad's husband. How's that for starters? Trust me, it gets weirder.
My name is Eugenia Watson, but you can call me Genie. I'm sixteen. This is my life.
Multiply (the Sum of Our Parts) (1electricpirate | 103,147 | R)
After Reichenbach and in order to 1) Keep Sherlock alive, 2) Keep John alive and 3) Get Sherlock home to England as soon as possible, Mycroft devises a plan that will not only incentivise John's continued sanity and survival but force Sherlock to come running. It is a perfect plan, though perhaps less than ethically sound. He has no doubts that using frozen samples of your younger brother's sperm to create children for his husband to care for falls deeply within the realm of socially unacceptable behaviour, but it is efficient, and that is what matters most.
Nature and Nurture (earlgreytea68 | 203,273 | R)
The British Government accidentally clones Sherlock Holmes. Which brings a baby to 221B Baker Street.
Humor
The Internet is Not Just For Porn (cyerus | 1,912 | PG)
"Sherlock," Lestrade said carefully, "exactly how did you meet, uh, John?"
"Over the internet."
I Just Had Sex (pennydreadful | 916 | PG)
Sherlock just had sex and he's going to make sure everyone knows.
Romance
The Road Less Traveled (verityburns | 76,886 | R)
Sherlock realises that John's dating habits involve an unacceptable level of risk... what if he meets an unusually tolerant woman and ends up getting married?
The Heart in the Whole (verityburns | 105,095 | R)
Events after 'The Great Game' leave Sherlock dependent on his best friend and colleague. But John has a secret of his own...
34 Minutes (bendingsignpost | 4,714 | PG)
An experiment in eye contact.
The Progress of Sherlock Holmes (ivyblossom | 62,006 | NC-17)
Sherlock is head over heels for John, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him. First-person present-tense series of short scenes from Sherlock's point of view, borrowing heavily from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories.
Other
The Paradox Series (Wordstrings | 98,862 | NC-17)
Being with Sherlock is a series of shocks, but John is game for it anyhow.
Note: My all time favorite Johnlock fic. This is a must-read.
His Favourite Four Letter F-Words (cathedral_carver | 3,676 | PG)
John isnât the most eloquent of men.
Evidence of Human Life (thesardine | 16,906 | NC-17)
Sherlock's sanity deteriorates while he and John are stranded on a deserted island.
lotherington (haven't read much, but very well-loved)
coloredink (lots of humorous and quirky fics)
orphan_account (used to be ironicnarwhal, very prolific, excellent writing style)
ivyblossom (so many fandom classics to this author's name)
pretty much any of the authors of the above fics
I realize that some of these categories overlap, but I did my best with organization. I had to be brutally picky in choosing the fics on this list; if you're looking for more really great fics, check out my casualfav and my favorite tag, which both list fandom classics and personal favorites. For more authors you can take a look at my authors page and my authors tag.
There are probably hundreds of thousands more fics and authors that are amazing and deserve to be on this list, but of course, I couldn't fit in all of them. Hopefully this covers most of the bases!Â
Read up on the fandom literature everyone! Thank you again for 2k; it's crazy and I can't say how much I appreciate it. Happy Johnlock reading!
I'm going to kick myself for reading a WIP, but I couldn't resist as I found out that Wordstrings, who wrote the heart-crushingly gorgeous Paradox series, has written something else heart-crushingly gorgeous which interestingly has a different take on Sherlock and John - with basically the best portrayal of John ever. http://archiveofourown.org/works/582059?view_full_work=true

This is the beginning of a Johnlock Fanfiction Club. It basically works like a book club but with fanfiction (awesome, I know!), and was inspired by a text post flying around that went like "how cool would it be to have a fanfiction book club"). So here it is! If you're intrigued, please read how this all will work.
Every two weeks two Johnlock fics of different genres will be chosen.
A set of fics to read is called a batch (for obvious reasons).
You have a week to read them (or only one of them if you feel the other is not up your alley).
Then you have another week to send your opinion about them in an ask (anon or not), reblog someoneâs comment about the fic and add your opinion, or make your own post about it.
If youâre making your own post please tag it with johnlockfanfictionclub so that I can find it and reblog it.
Remember to be respectful towards the authors and other readers. Even if you dislike the fic or disagree with someoneâs opinion there are polite ways to adress that.
You donât have to follow this blog to join the discussion or voice your opinion, but it would be swell if you did.
The fics to read are chosen by me from submissions I get (want to recommend a fic? Send an ask!) or simply because a fic catches my attention for whatever reason.
The whole point of this blog is to engage in a discussion about fanfiction. If academics can discuss and argue about literary works, why canât we do the same, but with a thing we love? Fangirling is not only allowed, but encouraged.
If you have any other questions, you feel like I forgot about something, you have suggestions or anything, please just send me an ask! And most importantly: have fun!
Moriarty is dead. But has a new king risen to take his place? As John sorts out what to do about the AGRA memory stick and his marriage, he and Sherlock are investigating precisely who and what was behind the broadcast on New Year's Day.
When the fic SO good you have to stop reading multiple times to allow for a dance break. It's long, hella fucking took me hours long but soooo good. Utterly worth it. (Canon compliant, HLV-fix it)
