This photo I took of the Harlow Market Square clock is currently on the Guardian website for architect John Grahamâs obituary. I had the good fortune to meet John several times through my day job and he had so many interesting stories, I thoroughly enjoyed our chats. He also gave me a full tour of his extensive art and design collection at his fabulous little festival of Britain prefab house in Harlow. Mixed media on paper, two 106x75cm. âAbstraction is the evaluation of form perfectly understood. Objectively abstracting is the transposition (transmutation) of the phenomenon observed into simpler, 'clearer, more evocative and organically final terms. Subjectively abstracting is an ability to evaluate events observed into a new and synthetic order. Since every art manifestation is essentially an abstraction (even photography is a mechanical abstraction of three-dimensional events on the two-dimensional plane), since the very nature of art rests on abstracting, then it is only logical to pursue the course of abstracting fearlessly to its logical end instead of evading it under the disguise of charm or of being true to nature or true to lifeâ System and dialectics of art- Graham, John #abstraction #johngraham #australianartist (at Alexandria, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWKcZDMhJTD/?utm_medium=tumblr

HOW THE STRONG WILL SURVIVE A CONVERSATION WITH DREW ARNOTT OF STRANGE ADVANCE Strange Advance decided to go into hibernation in 1989. Now, after over 30 years, the band is performing live again. Co-founder, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Drew Arnott is bringing the band back, joined by Ian Cameron, Rob Bailey and Ross Friesen, formerly of 3-D, Sean Dillon, and Alex âA-Trainâ Boynton, formerly of Payolas. From the beginning, Strange Advance didnât pigeonhole themselves into one particular genre of music. âWe were just doing what we did pretty organically, we werenât jumping on any bandwagon, but because we used synths, thatâs the genre we got tossed into. For a while [âŚ]
Hereâs a link to an outstanding interview Drew Arnott did with Spill Magazineâs John Graham back around 2019 when the band reunion was just getting underway. Enjoy.
