Don't you just love it when King George the third and one of the Ken's from the Barbie movie fall in love in the very long time of one evening in 1813.

The doctor is a massive fan of giving people a fate worse than death bestie wdym you canāt kill the chuldur but you can send it to a barren dimension
ok so i just watched the merrily we roll along pro shot for the first time ever and it was incredible but also SO. SAD.
and like theres the ways that itās obviously sad, like mary refusing a drink later in the show while being characterized as a drunk in the first scene, or not a day goes by being both bethās wedding vows and her response to frank cheating.
but theres one little sadness that kind of stuck in my brain because itās not all that sad on the surface. in the very first scene, frank is asked how to be like him. the only advice he gives is ādonāt just write what you know *pointing at his head*, write what you know *pointing at his heart.*ā and at first this seems like a meaningless nothing figure of speech said by a man whose life is falling apart under a picture of perfection. but then theres the last scene. we see charley and frank together for basically the first time since frank had to serve in the army. and charley tells him his music is good, really good, because he ādoesnt just write what he knowsā¦ā and this is so so important because not only was this a genuine compliment of the thing that mattered most to him at the time, it was probably one of the only genuine compliments that he ever received with no ulterior motive of money or flattery. so when heās asked how to be him, he reverts back to the time when he felt the most like himself, with the person who made him feel that way, and gave, not the advice that would get that young writer to where he was that day, sad and lonely and surrounded by yes-men, but the advice that would let that young writer be the most like himself. and it was charley who got him there, even after years of refusing to even acknowledge his existence, itās charleyās words from basically twenty years ago that are burned into his memory. and those words are what sends frank down his spiral all the way back to that first night.
She finally got around to watching Merrily We Roll Along, and now sheās obsessed
