John Wallace in his Karl Kani signature shoe, 1997.
John Wallace ("Captain Jack)" Crawford (1847–1917), known as "The Poet Scout", was an American adventurer, educator, and author. "Captain Jack" was a master storyteller about the Wild West and is known in American history as one of the most popular performers in the late nineteenth century. His daring ride of 350 miles in six days to carry dispatches to Fort Laramie for the New York Herald, to tell the news of the great victory by Gen. George Crook against the village of Chief American Horse at the Battle of Slim Buttes during the Great Sioux War of 1876-1877, made him a national celebrity.

and my HS friend Dr. John Wallace, a forensic entomologist, leading a global group studying the Buruli ulcer in Africa meeting to discuss its funding importance while fly fishing.
John was also my fellow Footballl and Track Team Discus throwing mate. His form was perfect in the discus. But he liked running more.
If I was Hard core I'd post Buruli Ulcer photos. Really horrific stuff. The ulcer eats away flesh, fat, and muscle painlessly down to the bone. If you don't believe me. Look it up yourself.
A molecule is stopping the pain receptor nerves of skin fat and muscle while It's decaying away and even bacteria won't go there.
There's no infection
John also told me that flies or insects don't go near the ulcers.
The insects seem to know the painlessness molecule is death.
Personal Note.I nearly followed John into the Peace Corps, mostly to get forgiveness on student loans. But I met my wife and her 3 & 4 yr boys in '89 and I found my true peace corps assignment right here.
