Scottie and Midge are driven apart by Scottie’s involvement with a mysterious, off-the-records case that leads him to chase a married woman all over San Francisco under suspicion that she is going to commit suicide. Though Midge supports Scottie and helps him with his case, she fears for his safety and tries to encourage him to give up the case when he becomes far too involved. However, Scottie’s sanity will be put on the line after his client seemingly does commit suicide, and Midge’s loyalty is put to the test as it seems she will lose Scottie forever.
