Elizabeth Taylor, and Elizabeth with her then fiancé, crooner Eddie Fisher, at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas on the opening night of Fisher's singing engagement at the resort, photos by John Bryson (who can be seen taking Taylor's photo in the mirror in pic one), April 1st, 1959. Elizabeth wore chandelier diamond earrings, a massive diamond ring, and an antique diamond tiara that converted into a necklace, all of which were gifts from her previous late-husband (and Fisher's best friend) producer Mike Todd, who'd died tragically the year before in a plane crash. On her wrist in these photos was a bracelet comprised of fifty diamonds, the only piece of jewelry given to her by Eddie at that point. Though he later showered her with jewels during their troubled five year marriage, Elizabeth, who had a keen eye for quality gems, often dismissed his choices as "junk", telling Fisher he'd been "ripped off".

Marilyn Monroe having a steak dinner with Paula Strasberg during the production of Let’s Make Love in 1960. Photo by John Bryson. Like many films in the past, Marilyn had her acting coach close to her side during filming, but unlike in the last, Marilyn confided mostly in her co-star, Yves Montand. When they both expressed their anxieties to one another, Marilyn finally felt understood by someone in her shoes.
“Arthur did not understand her panic about performing,” Yves said, “only another actor could.” Although she leaned on Yves and had friends on set, she continued to be late, forget lines, and still looked to Paula for an expression on whether the scene was good or not.
