Thank you so much for saying how gross Blair's "iconic" quote, "Some people are simply better than others is." I still cannot believe they had her say that and intended for the audience to be on her side cheering her on for it. Absolutely disgusting. She says this as a highly entitled rich person to a poor black person. Unbelievable...
i mean you said it all. even as a p classist racist teen who hated vanessa back then, i remember feeling embarrassment when that scene first aired. she’s my favorite female character (maybe all-time fave character depending on the day) but she really did have some absolutely inexcusable traits, like her bullying, slut-shaming, and classism. i kept desperately hoping that she’d grow up by the end of the show (and for a while there with dan it seemed like that was kind of happening!) but ofc nothing gold can stay etc.
