Dear Past Me,
Dear Past Me,
Donât invest yourself too much in one person. Josephâs gonna get married, and thatâs going to hurt like hell for a long time. Heâs gonna have another kid, and thatâs going to hurt too. Heâs not going to make it to your graduation, but his parents are, so give that rose to his mama. Itâs okay to stay friends with someone who loves you, and whom you love, even if you stop loving what they do. And youâre going to come to terms with that and itâs not going to hurt anymore.Â
Youâre going to learn some really tough lessons your first year of college. Really, really tough. Theyâll almost break you, and youâre going to have to make some decisions no one your age should have to make. Youâre still not going to be one hundred percent okay for a long time, but you will be better. Again this has to do with who you know. Hold on to the people who only say good things about you, and let go of the people who insult you and hurt you, even if they do it âjokinglyâ. Theyâre assholes.Â
Youâre going to be okay. You have a best friend now whoâs dark and weird and funny and is totally cool with dressing up in cosplay with you and lets you pet her dog and plays with your cats even though sheâs allergic. Youâll watch old movies and super hero movies and sheâll be way better to you than the last two were.Â
Youâll come to terms to who youâve known you were since you were sixteen, and while you have to keep that part of you a secret to your parents, youâll know it and accept it and thatâs all that matters. You will be loved and appreciated and you wonât be fat and people will call you cute and youâll be almost done with a freaking NOVEL and youâll paint when youâre stressed. And itâll help.Â
Hold on, kiddo. Youâll be okay.Â
