Birth of Joan of the Tower
On July 5, 1321, Joan of the Tower was born into English royalty at the Tower of London. She was the daughter of King Edward II of England and Isabella of France, and her birth placed her at the heart of the turbulent politics of the early 14th century. Growing up amid tensions between England and Scotland, her life would later become a key piece in diplomatic efforts between the two rival kingdoms.
As a child, Joan was betrothed to David II of Scotland, the young heir to the Scottish throne, in a marriage designed to secure peace between England and Scotland. Though the union was politically motivated, Joan would eventually become Queen Consort of Scotland, living through exile and shifting alliances during a volatile period in British history. She died in 1362, remembered as a royal figure shaped by diplomacy and dynastic struggle.
