For my Joker of Ashes WIP ✨

Shielding her face from the bright midday sun, she crawled up to the entrance of the burrow and blearily surveyed the shoreline. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but beach. Long, golden stretches of sand, a wide canvas of shimmering blue beyond, and tall palm trees swaying breezily in the wind. It kinda looked like those old photos in her history book, except if they got rid of all the people in it. Standing up, she went about her daily morning routine at noon before hopping back into her burrow again and chopping off the eighth leg and torso of the last giant spider she had. She ate too much of them in the first few days and was down to only an abdomen now, but that was fine. Burial wasn’t going to take long.

There, nestled deep inside a cavity of a tree trunk was a flat and round glass blown necklace with a leather cord looped through it. Varying shades of green swirled around the pendant and bubbles of white dotted the centre in a curl. It was beautiful. Picking it up, a warm, familiar pulse of ethric energy ran through her palm in soothing waves, and it just made her fingers feel all the more cold. Numb. The wind whistled through her hair as she stood there, staring. Her father’s ashes were in there. Her father was in there.
